Ray Parlour talking about living in Boro on Talksport

It was only as part of a larger conversation so he didn't go on too much but he was saying about how much he and his wife loved living in our neck of the woods.

He said about how living in London can feel like such a rat race and it was such a breath of fresh air moving up to Boro for a bit.

He loved how everyone just treated each other as equals and little things like if he went to the pub, he would offer to pay for everyone's drinks but people would tell him not to be daft and all put £20 each into a kitty for the evening.

Went on to say how great the people were and the area as a whole on which Ally McCoist wholeheartedly agreed with him.

Not a major story or anything but it was nice to hear the area being spoken about so positively for once.

A good player for the Boro, he's always said positive things on the club & the area

Tells some good stories about his time, particularly about going to Sedgefield races with the younger lads, who dressed as though they were off to Ascot! Was an important player for us in 2004/5 before injuries took their toll.....didn't seem to rate our appointing Southgate as manager!

Got to love the Romford Pele, I saw him once in a restaurant in Yarm, seemed a decent, down to earth guy.

He was a brilliant player at one time Ray Parlour. He was part of an outstanding Arsenal team and I was chuffed when he signed for Boro. It's good to see him speaking highly of the area. He's right of course. The people of the North East are generally good honest folk.

Funny guy is Parlour, you can tell every time he tells the Southgate story he feels daft in hindsight but at the time I bet most would have laughed along with him.

Southgate was the right manager at the wrong time. He needed 3 years to study for his badges and do some coaching behind an experienced manager and not be expected to cut costs to the bone. If he had done that first he would probably have created a positive legacy as our manager. Never really got what Parlours beef with Southgate was, other than he struggled to show respect to the manager, wanted to undermine him a little, rather than accept him as boss

I always post this about Parlour but he was one of the most surprising Boro signings of my lifetime. Not in terms of quality, you don’t play that many games for Arsenal if you’re a bad player, but the way he played for us. He was so strong it was ridiculous, he tackled with his whole body and seemed to love a bit of needle. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I thought we were getting a good wide man, ‘former winger’ sort of player who would ‘do a job’ out wide but he was a very good central midfielder who took no sh*t from anyone. He was a cracking player for us until the injuries caught up with him.

I think it shows the difficulty of going from being team mates to manager so quickly, I think something Southgate has also alluded to?

Used to see him in the Ketton Ox in Yarm and he acted just like everybody else and had a good craic with folk .
Very opposite to other footy 'big time charlies' who acted like complete t#ts . Keith O'Neil the biggest one
He was just supposed to be a t*t in general wasn’t he regardless of money or what. Keith O‘Neill I mean.

Was expecting it to be negative. Makes a difference when the WAGs like it.

38 likes and counting! The most ever for a post?

Met him in the claggy mat one night. He was sat down with two girls either side of him. Had a quick chat in which he was very enthusiastic. Top bloke (y)

When He first signed before the injuries kicked in, his fitness levels were on a another level to the rest of the team. Always comes across as a decent fella
