Just checking the latest results and clicked on the line ups to see if Bellingham was playing and saw that you can have 12 subs for a game, 12…when did that happen?

If it was like 5 a side with roll on subs* this would be hilarious!!!

Not quite - the change to allow 12 subs on the bench came over ten years ago in 2013.

(The line in the margin denotes a change from the previous year).

And since 2022, the maximum is actually 15.

The IFAB permanently approves five-substitute option in top-level competitions

In addition, the members decided to increase the maximum number of named substitutes listed on the team sheet from 12 to 15 at the discretion of the competition organiser.

Well, no, he’s talking about a Champions League game and up to and including the 18-19 season the Champions League had a bench of 7, from 19-20 onwards they’ve had a bench of 12. So the very simple, non-pedantic “well actually!” answer literally is about 3-4 years.

There's nothing in the OP indicating this is only about Champion's League games.

The wording used was, "saw that you can have 12 subs for a game, 12…when did that happen?"

As far as I could tell, it was a general point about the laws of football.

I don't care how many are on the bench, I still just don't get why 5 substitutions are allowed, that's the biggest change that helps out the top teams
