He was offside for the first pass and was two yards ahead of the closest defender. The wide man getting the ball shouldn't, IMO, reset that offside - it didn't until relatively recently.

It was the fact he was behind the second ball - nothing to do with the left back.

That offside against Bayern at the end just sums up why VAR doesn't work. We'll never know if it would have been given offside had play been allowed to continue. Utter farce.

Neuer made the first mistake with his poor distribution decision. That gave the ball away in a dangerous area, then he compounded it with a really poor error with the shot.
