I have just broken the screen on a Macbook Pro for the second time in a year so they are clearly not resilient for my purposes, anymore. A new display costs as much as a second version of the full mac.
I didn't think i would go back but maybe its time to see what I can get as far as a laptop PC.

It is for professional use so it needs to be decent but doesn't have to be gaming spec. Minimum 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD

Given you've broken the screen on a Macbook twice in a year, which I've never managed to do in the 10 years I've had Macbooks, then perhaps a Panasonic Toughbook may be what you're after ?

We use the Dell Precision mobile workstations at work. They get carted round a lot and have been reliable. Easy to work on and upgrade too.
I've never used a touchscreen one as we work on industrial sites and I wouldn't want to be forever trying to clean the screen.

Can I drive to work on it ? Because I would want to at that price 😲

How did you manage to break 2 screens?

First one it was just a matter of closing the lid.
Today, the mac dropped gently off the sofa onto the floor. Good night screen.
Two screens in a year - both the same model. I have never had any bother with loads of other macs (other than one getting nicked).

For the cost of a MacBook I'd be claiming on home insurance rather than just getting rid of it
