Recommendations for insulated shell jacket

I've had my current insulated jacket for about 10 years and it cost me £50. It's done really well, but is way past it's best (it's North Ridge if that helps). It used to be nice and warm, and either has lost some of that ability or I've just got older! Last year when I went to the Lakes it just so happened to coincide with storm Arwen. I was freezing and decided where better to buy a coat? I got one, and it's tremendous, but buying it in those conditions I kind of over-estimated how warm a coat I'd need. Turns out it's too warm. I've not worn it this winter, and have only worn it on one walk since I've got it and a few evening matches. Hence the old coat still in use.

So has anyone got any recommendations for a relatively low-budget winter jacket? On an 1-3 scale of warmth (3 being the warmest), the new coat came in at 3 in the shop I bought it from. I think it's technically a ski jacket so it's really warm. Based on that scale I'd say my current jacket would be a 1 comparatively, and a new jacket that was a 1 nowadays would probably be warmer due to the better technology?

Annoyingly, different companies rate their coats by different scales. And if you pop into a shop to look at the sales items like I did earlier, you then struggle to find any meaningful comparison data on Google. I hate waste so whatever I buy now I'll be stuck with for a few years so want to make sure I get something decent :D

How much are you looking to spend pal?

I was dragged to the outlet place at York over the weekend. Plenty of decent "winter/warm" coats in there and since we're heading out of the cold weather (hopefully) they're going cheap. I ended up treating myself to a TOG24 coat for £90 - reduced from £140. Not so thick coats were going for £50-£80. Worth a trip?

My go to kit whilst on the move is a Keela Munroe Jacket with either a gilet or duvet jacket from Lands End - done blizzards in that set up no wetting up inside - I didn't expect that either !! always bargains on the lands end but the covering must keep it dry.

Another left field thought might be Buffalo - fleece inner, pertex outer. You need to keep moving to keep it dry !!. I nearly froze to death on Whitby West cliff at the footie in my buffalo one night but my normal night footie is unknown origin - puffa jacket picked up on a sale rail in that cheap mill in the centre of Batley
