Redundancy

Second time in 8 months the 'risk of redundancy' call has happened - somewhat out of the blue this time. I was literally given a pay rise less than 4 weeks ago and now this....

They are making financial offers to go early and not go through the process.

This one is gonna hurt. I really cannot afford to be out of work and really not seeing much lately around IT Service Management.

Happy Friday everyone

Depends how many years you got in and what the offer is?

Only 5 years.

Its typically 1 weeks pay per year but they are offering 1.5 weeks per year plus an additional month on top. From the conversation, whilst they cannot say they are pushing you in a direction it very much felt like take the offer. If not, you would just receive the standard redundancy package if made redundant.

They are also wanting a quick turnaround. 2 weeks if you take the offer, end of may if going through the process.

Im sure they will, i like to try and be as positive as i can and i have been made redundant before and it turned out to be the best thing that happened. However, i now have kids and a wedding to pay for so timing isnt great.

been there a few times in the past & managed to land myself a role & able to accept the VR.. - it's always a gut wrenching feeling when they tell you, financial implications brought very much into sharp focus - however if you can get your head straight, it is also a big opportunity [ unwelcome as it may be ] to push yourself on, as staying in a comfort zone can have it's own limiting effect..

Best of luck & make it work for you..

I second what BobUpDown said, it is an awful feeling, one you can never get used to but things have a way of working out.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Really sorry to hear that KDG. I have been through a number of redundancies over the last 27 years and the one thing that has been consistent is that if the business is starting to make waves of redundancies, then the packages offered in the first wave have always been the best. I got offered redundancy after 5 years service with one employer - I managed to dodge it by finding another role at the same place. This happened several times and then after 10 years service I finally took redundancy and my package was lower than had I taken the first offer after 5 years service.

Hope this works out okay for you. Not what you want to hear the day before a long weekend, but try not to dwell on it too much. It hasn't happened yet...

Sounds a pretty $hit deal to be honest but I have not been in this situation.

question to ask yourself is how long the process of redundancy will take vs the VR with two weeks notice. the VR still work out more value for you or if the redundancy is drawn out over a few months would that leave you better off

Hopefully it ends up leading to something better. I’ve been made redundant twice and was very lucky it ended up being the best for me.

Good luck with it all.

Taking the rough with the smooth is an unfortunate situation how life is. The sooner all things money is made irrelevant the sooner the better but how to replace it is another matter. We all sympathize with those who lose their jobs especially the ones on FMTTM, good luck buddy I’m sure you’ll make it through this spell.

This sounds all too familiar. I've have delivered 100s of these calls and made 100s more redundant. Ive also been in many many redundancy pools myself. It is horrible. You have my up most sympathy mate.

All to make the rich knobs a bit richer!! Largest IT outsourcing company, penny pinching and using people like sh1t3 on their shoe.
