Reflections on last night : You have to feel sorry for Carrick really.

Basically he has eleven players to pick from. They start ok and get in front and should really then put the game to bed.
He can't really make any subs (how bad were Rogers and Silvera when they came on) so even though he has some really
tired legs out on the pitch he doesn't really want to change things whilst we are winning. We then concede 2 awful goals
and he feels compelled to make some changes, and just as obviously the team get worse.
He really is playing with his hands tied behind his back at the moment so to speak.
On top of this he then has to go and do a press interview and try and defend it without throwing the players under a bus.
Pretty impossible situation to be in really.
We desperately need some fit players back, and soon so Carrick can do his job properly.
Just my take on last night.

It’s clear he doesn’t trust his subs.

We certainly did enough to win and had jones scored his chance just after we scored then there’s only one winner.

But at 1-0 there’s always that danger.

But they were truly shocking.

My take for what it's worth is that the injuries have totally scuppered this seasons masterplan.

For me the new players were, in the main, signed for their potential rather than to be ready made first team players. We could probably manage with one or two of them making appearances when games suited but not be totally reliant on them as we have been for much of this season. Instead, players who clearly aren't as good as those who left us at the end of last season, have been asked to up their game and play to a much higher standard week in week out and this is why we have been so inconsistent.

We are definitely seeing improvements in the likes of Engel, whilst VDB looks to be a real gem for 19 years old but others are still struggling to get up to speed with what is being demanded of them.

Hopefully in the long term it will make them better players (although Silvera in particular looked clueless in his brief cameo last night) but for now we are as a team suffering.

I think you can fault Carrick last night, first half we were decent and could've been out of sight. Half time they changed things up and push much higher against us and we failed to adapt how we were playing to counter their changes. It was inevitable after 5 minutes of the second half, it wasn't working and nothing was changed

I would put ELL in the category too - he will score at this level, and he looks to be improving, although I'm not sure he will ever shake off that 'rawness'

One thing I noticed about ELL last night, was that he's starting to find his voice on the pitch. A few times he made runs and wasn't found, he turned around and gave them a bo**ocking.

Yeh thats good, growing in confidence

On the flip side, a couple of times he held onto the ball or tried to take on a player when there was good runs on and he didnt release it!

Swings and roundabouts Emmanual!

Agreed, it's good to see that he's scoring those scruffy goals like last night which will help to get his numbers up over the course of a season.

I don't think anyone can fault his workrate and his aerial ability is good for his size and stature, he just desperately needs better supply and support up there.

Yes, Can't we bring JFH in for a few trainings sessions with our strikers? He was the most mardy striker I have ever seen and I absolutely loved it - especially when he scored and all the other players were jumping all around, and he was berating them some something or other!

Would really like to see Lath tried just behind the striker (if we can get one fit or bring one in) the way he wins a large percentage of his headers from longer balls would give the opposing 2 centre halfs more to think about if they had someone trying to get on the end of them and open space up down the flanks
