Remaining Fixtures in purgatory

In search for positives I've had a look at the remaining fixtures for the 8 teams stuck in the mire - Charlton downwards as I see it, with Wigan included because of the point deduction.

I've highlighted games where teams from bottom 7 and Wigan play each other. Luton, Barnsley and Wigan have three games each against a fellow struggler, Hull have two the rest have one and Boro don't play any more teams in or around us, which is potentially a blessing, as we very much need all the points we can get and there are 14 fixtures that cancel each other out (ie- one team will drop points).

I think we need three wins to be certain to stay up. I wouldn't fancy Barnsley's next three games, and Stoke and Hull's fixtures don't look great with them facing a number of promotion chasers. Charlton's next two games are London derbies against Brentford and Millwall.

I think it will be Luton, Barnsley and Hull for the drop with Wigan twitching because of the points deduction.

That means that the teams below Boro will certainly pick up points. Both teams can't lose. The best outcome I guess is draws, but that means Boro will have to pick up a few points to stay above water. I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Last night's result took away a lot of the positive expectation I had after Warnock's appointment.

If we lose to a follow struggler like that - and it was a dire game between two extremely poor teams - then can we really *expect* to beat a mid-table team, even if they don't have much to play for? If we could be there to shout them on, it might be different, but as it is it's not looking good.

Stoke, Hull and Barnsley for me. I think the better teams play a more open style of football rather than spoiling like Hull. I think we will get enough points, we may possibly even need to rely on Wigans demise to do it though.
I suspect their manager and players will be fuming and be more determined to prove a point though.

Deflating day after so many results helped us out yesterday.

Some tough games for our rivals next up:

Tuesday
Luton vs Barnsley - neither side can afford a draw

Huddersfield at Reading - think Hudds have the same problem as us - can't get on top of games and take control. Reading off the back of a 5-0 win too...

Brentford vs Charlton - can't see past a home win with the form Brentford are in

Wednesday
We're at Millwall, playing first. We don't have a great record at the New Den and Millwall have points to prove. I can see us staring into the void by 5pm.

Hull away to Bristol City. Possibly Hull's best chance of an away win before end of season.

Wigan at home to QPR and it would be typical if QPR didn't bother to turn up and they get beat.

Thursday
Stoke City away at Leeds which is a very tough game which I don't see them getting any points from.
