Requiem for a Dream

I remember arguing with DanDan (once of these parts) when this was released as to whether it was a great film or just indulgent miserableness.

I've not seen it in a while but loved it as a hyper-real reflection of the decline of society. It would probably hit harder now. I'll dig it out.

Juice by Tappy!! Juice by Tappy!!!

Be!! Excited!! BE!!! BE!! EXCITED!!!

I find it difficult to watch Jared Leto a lot of the time for some reason, but he is brilliant in this .. as is the beautiful Jennifer Connolly

One of my favourite films but yes very dark indeed

i remember that there was a quite interesting TV series based upon Nevil Shute’s book. I looked for it recently but with no success.

While we're on the subject, anybody got any other recommendations for seriously bleak films?
Tyrannosaur (2011) by Paddy Considine will be right up your street Scubs if you are after bleak.

I think it's an amazing film and definitely leaves you impacted by it. But it's not a happy happy joy joy film.

Home Alone. It's about a family that abandons one of their children at Christmas. He then gets terrorised by home invaders.

If anyone thinks Jared Leto is a terrible actor I would advise watching house of Gucci, where he gives the single greatest performance in the history of acting.

If your looking for bleak I'd recommend the early Lars Von Triers films - Breaking The Waves and Dancer in the Dark are great bleak films.

Festen is another Dogme film from Denmark and is both wonderfully bleak and hilarious.

Oh and if you want to watch the most distressing, heartbreaking documentary of all time, watch Dear Zachary.

I absolutely guarantee you won't thank me for that one either! 😔

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About his Father
The Road
The machinist
Manchester by the sea
Kids
Bridge to Teribithia
Dancer in the dark
Children of men
Plague dogs
Threads
When the wind blows
Philadelphia
Synecdoche, New York
Martyrs
