Retail Workers

Just noticed a report that teachers should be vaccinated early, what does everyone think ? .. essential retailers such as B&Q, Wickes, are as much as risk, ..cashier's on minimum wage, should they jump the queue, ?? Personally I think they should, .. it's a very strange predicament,.

Totally agree, all frontline workers should be first in the queue, they have kept the country going through this pandemic,

Should be nhs, care workers and the vulnerable first. Then should be looking at the workers who can spread the virus quickly. Imagine how many people postal workers and couriers can easily infect daily without knowing they have the virus.

No one should be put in a predicament that cost them their lives no matter what they do. If this means retail workers need to be vaccinated first, then so be it.

There is some rationale in this. It's not about teachers- it is about teachers being off. Same with healthcare workers.

If a teacher gets covid- that is at least 30 kids potentially isolating- therefore a parent of each of those 30 have to be at home to look after them. The knock on of that is significant. Unfortunately a retail worker catching covid impacts a much smaller bubble- maybe several other retail workers but the store will generally run as normal (except for the staff overload)

Don't be fooled into thinking this is for anything other than economy, nobody is placing value on teachers over retail workers. It is the reason schools are open currently- for childcare economics.

I think retail workers should 'jump the que' although clearly behind NHS.

They got very little credit during the big lockdown. The whole country was at a standstill yet they worked long hours on poor wages in supermarkets. Also during the initial stages had absolutely no PPE and dealing with idiot public (I include myself as never wore a mask then).

I would argue they were every bit at risk as a Nurse or Dr. 100s of people a day breathing over them as them moaned about no bog rolls or pasta.

The only places open down here in tier 4 are the 'essential' places. I do question how some are 'essential' like Costa or Starbucks. I'm sure getting a drive through coffee isn't make or break😂

So if you have to work in an 'essential' environment then you should get the vaccine ahead of someone at home on furlough or unemployed / stay at home parent etc.

Mrs Chickenrunner works in a primary school. The staff are not permitted to wear any PPE and neither do the kids. They try to socially distance but it's not always easy with such young kids. I think it would be a sound move to prioritise school staff under the circumstances.
