Ridiculous football fan rules

Thought it would be good to watch Wednesday vs Newcastle later - they won't let me buy tickets because I might be a Newcastle fan.

It is ridiculous that football fans are so poorly behaved you can't just go watch a match at your local club because you cannot prove you are a supporter.

I've suffered like this before. But I've also got lucky on two different occasions by ringing the home club and asking them politely - explaining I'm visiting the town as a one off and would like to visit their stadium, or I'm home from overseas, or something like that. Then they fall over themselves to help. Although in this case I suspect your accent will get in the way.

It took 40 minutes to get through to the club... only for them to tell me no.

Might see if I just turn up at the ticket office will be able to talk someone round - my accent is pretty mild.

Ah, that sucks. In both cases I benefitted from having an accent unrelated to either of the teams who were playing. Still, what a bunch of jobsworths. I still hate Barnet for refusing to sell me a ticket for a game a couple of years ago as I didn't have a previous purchase history, even though the stadium was only half full.

Why not take council tax or utility bill with you? - If you're keen to get in.

Better still take some Middlesbrough purchase history and show that you want to see the game as a neutral....ish😉

It happened to me on Boxing Day. There being no public transport I decided to see Harrogate Town v Grimsby Town. It turned out that general sale was closed three days before the game so that the details of 'newcomers' (I first watched Harrogate Town in 1969) could be cross-checked with Grimsby's database. After that (which was when I was wanting to buy) they would only sell to anyone who had been to at least three home games that season. So they didn't get my money.

Hartlepool have a policy of being on the fan database to get in to a game. Might have put a few off getting in the game today
