Riley McGree

I think he may attract a few bids. We will have caught the eye and he's the fella at the world cup. Like hackney he's got lovely feet. Biggest weakness for me is receiving the ball under pressure in his own half. Would often take a poor touch when facing his own goal, get ministered and lose the ball. That stopped happening though. Probably because he got moved further up the pitch.

Our Riley has frustrated me a bit. I believe he is he capable of being better than he has shown. Many times I’ve thought he should’ve scored more or set up more, but it’s unluckily fizzled out.

With a full preseason under Carrick and Hackney, I can see them gelling more and starting to produce some more magic. He needs to look to take that one less touch to be slightly more unpredictable and release a few more goalbound efforts.

Carrick to crank up a few more shots from out the box.

He's a technically gifted and intelligent footballer. He was the one player you felt might make something happen for us the other night, whether it was trying the little through ball to Archer late on in the game, or popping up in the box and having his shot blocked by their defender.

Issue is we could do with him contributing a few more goals and assists. 6 goals over the course of the season isn't too shabby but 3 assists is poor.

We're not about keeping clean sheets under Carrick, we're all about scoring goals, which I feel is a big reason why we ended the season poorly and ultimately lost out in the playoffs - we'd stopped scoring goals.

You can get away with starting McGree when you've got either a fully fit Forss playing, or Ramsey playing on the other side, as you fancy either of them to score in a game, but not when you've got either Jones, or an unfit Forss playing on the opposite side.

McGree can be key for us in certain games, as when he's in the mood he's the one who makes us tick, but he's not someone who you always believe can be a match-winner.

At the start of the season I would agree with the op - he seemed to grow in confidence after the World Cup and now looks ok Doesn’t set the world alight but ok.

His biggest issue is his lack of physicality, he literally bounces off other players and I can’t see him ever winning a 50:50 challenge.

The biggest problem with him though is having other intelligent players next to him making runs into spaces allowing him to thread the play, if he has bola and a big spud up front next to him next season he won’t be anywhere near as effective

I think he’s technically a very good player who is comfortable in our playing style. My only reservation is that he doesn’t seem to influence games enough. He can sometimes be a bit of a passenger on the fringe of the game, which is a concern cos he is in the team to be creative and make things happen

Love Riley, I'd argue we played our best football with him and Forss or Ramsay and Forss at full fitness.

Problems started arising when we tried to play Riley and Ramsay as their both left sided at the time Carrick was magic touching everything.

I remember the first time he put Forss on the right, it was like wtf are you doing. Forss then scores loadsa goals.

He then put hackney wide left after an injury and I was like wtf you doing and Hackney immediately scored a banger. 😂

McGree's always been involved in the good stuff we've played. Just because he isn't necessarily the one right at the end whose contribution results in numbers for the goals and assists charts doesn't devalue the part he plays.

We created two clear cut chances against Coventry in the play off games, when Chuba hit the bar and when he headed it just wide at the start of the first leg second half. McGree created both of them.

I'd definitely want him as one the two options for the left of the three .whether he's first or second choice depends who we bring in in that position
