Preview:

With 14 games of the Championship season under their belt (W2, D4, L8), it looks like being another tough campaign for Rotherham United who are five points adrift inside the relegation zone. It’s a position the Millers are used to being in having never finished higher than 19th in six Championship campaigns, although ominously four of those ended in relegation.

Taking just one point from their last two games, both of which came against the only two teams beneath them in the table, has certainly done little to boost their survival hopes. But Rotherham fans will turn up at the New York Stadium with some hope for this rearranged clash with Ipswich Town as all but one of their ten points this season have come here (W2, D3, L2).

Ipswich Town make the unenviable long journey to South Yorkshire for the second time, after this game was postponed hours before kick-off just over two weeks ago owing to flooding caused by Storm Babet. The Tractor Boys should travel in good spirits after coming back from 2-0 down on Saturday away at Birmingham City to pick up a point, although it did end a run of four successive victories.

Manager Kieran McKenna described the comeback at St Andrews as “a second half to be very proud of”, although he may be a little concerned by his side’s recent defensive record which has seen them concede seven goals across their last three games in all competitions. There have been no such issues up the other end of the pitch though, with Ipswich scoring in each of their last 33 games in league and cup!

Players to watch: Rotherham forward Georgie Kelly hasn’t started a league game all season but could well come into the XI for this match after contributing a goal and an assist from the bench in the last two home matches. Pushing for a starting berth in the Ipswich line-up, Marcus Harness scored both goals on Saturday and has three from the last two league games.

Kieran McKenna wants his Town players to take the ‘challenge of Rotherham head on’ this evening.

The Blues are at the New York Stadium for a televised clash with the Millers tonight, as the two sides face off at the second time of asking, after last month’s original staging was postponed after heavy rain made conditions unsafe for supporters.

With Town well-prepared, Kieran knows the physical challenge his side can expect tonight and wants to see his players stand up and face them head on.

He told TownTV: “We’ve prepped this game twice now so we have had a really good look at them and their strengths are clear – they're a really strong team at home.

“That was apparent going into when we were going to play them the first time, as they were picking up points in pretty much every home game.
“Since the break they have beaten Coventry and drawn with QPR, so with a night game we know it’s going to be a tough place to go and that they like to make the games physical and intense at their stadium.

“We know we’re going to have to stand up to that and will have to play really well to come out on top.

“We’re aware of the scale of the challenge but it’s one to look forward to. We want to take these challenges head on.”

Town will be backed by an away crowd of more than 2,000 evening, with Kieran and his team looking to give them something to cheer.

He said: “We are aware that plenty of the supporters are going to be making this journey for a second time so while it’s frustrating for us it’s going to be more so for them.

“We’ll do everything we can to show the resilience, quality and character to hopefully get a result they can enjoy.”
Tonight’s game is available to watch in selected countries this evening, with all subscribers able to watch a full pre-match show from 7pm.

Seemed a fair result - Ipswich had a few more chances, but got lucky with their second goal.

Based on that performance I am surprised Ipswich have so many points. They looked an edge of play off team to me.
