Ryan Giles Hull

Good teams have always targeted his side of the pitch, last season, Burnley away, Brighton FA cup home, both teams attacked down the right, and totally tortured him, ball watching not picking his runners up, time and time again.

Always looked good going forward against average teams, but turn him the other way, and having to defend, he is like a rabbit caught in the headlights..
Aye. He had a total mare at Burnley - it was the lad from Southampton, I think. He isnt the best defender but I have wondered about him playing on the left of midfield

How is it? They're pushing for the playoffs, making some good signings, of which he is one. Not sure how it's a "terrible" move for him at all.
His first bad move was going to luton, who are almost dead certs to get relegated and get hoofed almost every week. Not the place for an aspiring wing back who will get destroyed defensively and get minimal chances to attack in a team that is on the back foot most of the time.

He has then compounded that by taking a move to Hull , where he will dissapear forever into the mire of mediocrity.

His advisers need a quick boot up the harris.

Of the three teams relegated, I think Luton might stay up, 4-0 against Brighton was some result last night.

Luton's style should have suited Giles, crossing the ball into the box from the wings, but he looked out of his depth when he played for them, Rob Edwards sussed him out, he is not a Premier league player no matter which team he played for, and that's not his advisors fault.

He got his move to the Premiership, pay rise and a club he could finally call home, but it didn't work out, and he is back down to his level, playing in the Championship.

We know who to target next time we play them as he can’t defend.
it's not as simple as that though when someone carries a threat at the other end of the pitch. Sure, you can expoit but he generally got by for us as the opposition tried to double up to limit his threat, often unsuccesssfully.

Having players like Engel and Clarke playing in Boro’s defence virtually means that we have to score at least 2 goals to win a game.
We had a great scorer and a couple of real talents in midfield last season, however we did not get promotion. Possibly only in goal are we stronger than in 22/23. We are now virtually playing for 5th or 6th position, and we are up to 5 points adrift there.
A good striker is an absolute need.

He was great for us but I always felt he was stepping up too early, he needed to improve his defensive work in this league first. Regardless he'll do great for Hull and get a bunch of assists.

We were doing exactly the same last season without Clarke and Engel in the team. It's the way we play, not the players.

make sure to save this post so you can refer to it in 18 months time when we accept a £10m bid for Engel.

I don't know what "disappear forever into the mire of mediocrity" even means here. I don't get this weird misplaced arrogance of looking down on a team that are actually above us in the table and who beat us pretty comfortably at home not too long ago. The move is perfectly fine for him.

I'm not surprised he's gone elsewhere to be honest. Watched Lutons games this season and Alfie Doughty the current left /wing back has been immense. Looks about 40 but hes only 24. I can see bigger clubs going after him.

I did say at the end of last season that it would be a terrible move for him, and I said the same for Archer too. Giles, you need to have defensive stability to play for Luton especially when moving up to the big league. I think he will find a home and come again, but I also wonder if last season will be his career highlight.

Archer, I said the best way to establish yourself as a prem player, is to get promoted as a key player, then retain your spot after promotion. You will have proven yourself and learned to integrate with your team. a young player going to a new team is an obstacle, as is going to a terrible struggling side, as is a new manager coming in, as is moving up a division. All too much for him at his level of experience.

Akpom's failure is the one that surprised me, but not really his making.

Three top players last year and it's gone to pot for all of them, you can add Ramsey in to make it 4

so are Sunderland, but I would suggest that on the balance of probability, both will finish below us come the end of the season.
Sunderland I'd agree with, Hull I'm not so sure. One of the best squads in the division and an incredibly progressive manager. Been really impressed with them so far.

its not arrogance, history suggests that young players who are constantly loaned out to multiple teams outside of the top flight, tend to drift in their careers. There are a few exceptions. Is Giles one of them? I have no idea.
