Sad news - derek redmond father has died

I remember watching that as a 17 year old kid and thinking that’s nice.

Now watching it back as 47 year old dad I can understand all the emotion that he must give through watching his sons dream disappear and doing just what any father would do, go and help their little one. Because not matter how big, tough and strong you become you are always your dads little un.

RIP Jim Redmond, not only an Olympic legend but more importantly a dad legend

In the first two rounds of that 400m Redmond had cruised to victory and looked in peak form. Then came the semi final. If not for that hamstring he would certainly have qualified for the final and would have been one of the favourites for gold. Sport can be so cruel sometimes. It is why we love it also. The unpredictable, the drama.

Than night has always burned in my memory
