A very interesting article (with a slightly melodramatic headline considering Schalke are 6 points off the relegation places with only 3 games to go......and 2 of those games are against the sides currently occupying the bottom two places).

Agreed, feel sorry for those Duisburg and 1860 fans not to mention Armenia Bielefeld who went from the Bundesliga down to league 3 back in 2020-22. Btw, Christian Ziege used to manage them-- didn't work out too well by all accounts. lol ;)
 
The 2nd and 3rd ligas of Germany are packed with big name clubs like, usually close run leagues too a bit similar to the Championship.

Incredible how S04 have dropped right off, and long may it continue.
 
Bielefeld have had a shocking run since dropping out of the Bundesliga a few years back. They weren't even bottom the year they went down, but suspect that was mainly down to Steffen Ortega.

Melodramatic in that the chances of being relegated are very slim (they could be safe from automatic relegation by this weekend, even if they lose their next game).

No, Gelsenkirchen is twinned with Newcastle because of their coal histories.
The clubs are not twinned, the towns are.

I don't have any affection for Oberhausen, or their league 4 team just because Middlesbrough is twinned with it.
