Selling/releasing Watmore...

I don't particularly care about the missed chances. He gives us something that no other forward at the club does. He is so quick and mobile.

I have absolutely no doubt Stoke were happy when he went off.

To sell him for a minimul fee or heaven forbid nothing seems daft. I think he's ready made for an impact sub role. Ironically the very type we needed to bring on last night with 15-20 mins to go.

The only thing I would say is Hoppe that 'type?'. It seems odd moving Watmore on without a like for like replacement.

I actually think we've almost got enough going forward in Akpom/Watmore / Forss and Hoppe (although not sure what that's based on lol). I'm more concerned about at the back than this fabled 10mil CF. He's not going to get us clean sheets.

I thought Watmore was excellent last night. Yes he should have done better with a couple of situations, but he scored/forced 2 goals and his workrate was awesome. We looked worse when Forss came on. He has obviously been carrying an injury or had some issues from his knee in the first few games, yet he has still made himself available and played a part. He can also change a game from the bench. I'd be cautious of letting him go before we see what he have got from our new strikers.

Lately? The season is 20 days old.

That would be a pretty superficial reason for changing opinions formed over the previous 2 years.

Not just this season.

He was missing a lot last season too, the one where he somehow kicked the ball in to his own back being the highlight.
People were happy to overlook it as he was still popping up with goals and assists despite the misses.

But before yesterday, he'd went 12 matches without a goal involvement.

Just this season, he missed an absolute sitter against West Brom, missed a sitter against Barnsley, missed a great chance against Sheffield United.

Watmore is inconsistent, when at his best he's one of our best players. Inconsistency is probably a result of his injuries I really like him and taking him and McGree off last night, while necessary due to them having run themselves into the ground, probably cost us the game as neither Crooks or Forss offered the same to keep Stoke's defence busy. When we have a full squad I would like to see him and McGree share number 10 duties with Chuba or our 'big money striker signing' up top

I'd allow Coburn to go out on loan and bring in one more striker. Keep Hoppe, Forss, Watmore and Akpom.
I think this is what will happen. Especially when you consider how well McGree played in the 10 role. If we aren’t certain to start with 2 strikers every game then we won’t need 6 options.

Last night Watmore did well. Good goal, should have done better for the 2nd but got the lucky bounce off the defender,

"should have done better" he scored FFS. I'll take a "lucky" striker over someone like Balogan who we're told is technically amazing, but doesn't actually result in the ball in the net.

I wouldn't sell him either. His workrate last night was fantastic, he kept the defenders run ragged. His composure in front of goal could use a little work, especially when he made that run and went too far to the byline and then mooned one, but I'll accept that because he also has end product. I would have liked to have seen Tommy Smith come on rather than Forss last night and taking off Mcgree was a mistake. It was an encouraging performance, but again, stupid defensive lapses cost us. Once we nip that in the bud, we'll be golden. Was nice to see Wilder admit he shouldn't have really gone for the jugular and subbed on defensive minded players instead.

Watmore is an impact player who can come off the bench later in the game when the defenders are blowing out of their ar5e.

He is not a 60 minute man who can overpower or outpace fresh defenders.

We need a capable front line striker who can start a game.
