These are the teams England will most likely have to beat to win the World Cup. That’s the current African Champions, the current World Champions and if we get past those two and beat the 2016 European Champions or a highly talented Spanish side, we’ll have to beat the current South American Champions or the most successful World Cup team of all time in the final.

If, and I appreciate it’s a big if, we win this World Cup, nobody can claim that we did it in spite of Southgate.

After Senegal we could face:
Poland, Morocco, then Australia in the final.

Easiest route ever.

Southgate has no excuse.

Japan were fantastic against Spain tonight. I don't believe we have that much to fear from them should we meet Spain.

Japan on the other hand would rip Southgate's favoured midfield trio to pieces.

The Senegal game is a proper banana skin and we need to be on our toes for that one ... going to be hard and I am going for a 2-1 win, perhaps a bit of drama with Senegal taking the lead :ROFLMAO: .. I think Kane will start scoring and fancy him to get both later in the second half if I am right.

Though I am perfectly happy if he remains to fire them assists and someone else gets on the end of them!

I now think England are perfectly capable of winning this WC. I didn't think I would feel this confident at all a few weeks back, come to the knockouts. Some of the group games have been ridiculous. Though the surprises have been nice for entertainment value. Belgium and Germany looking so miserable :ROFLMAO: .. Belgium 2nd best in world?? Give over .. I would never have the likes of Lukaku near our team :ROFLMAO:

This tourny is wide-open and England can win it. It is just down to whether they truly want it in the head now ... hopefully, the final loss vs Italy has given them the experience they need to see games out when they matter.

If we come up against Spain, I hope they have that lad in goal who played earlier :ROFLMAO: . Good grief, he was awful and some of the playing out was so panicky, we would destroy them if they turned up like that vs the likes of what we have up top.

I would be so proud if Sir Gareth brings home a WC ... something very rare you don't get to see unless you're lucky ... they don't come around often. Would be a wonderful bit of a lift while so much of the country is otherwise beaten into the ground, in such misery under multiple crises.

The players are good enough to do it.

It is not a question of you not wanting it “in the head” - that is a given. It is now whether you have the ability to string 4 massive results together against world class teams. And have to add that that is something England have never done in our lifetimes.

I think France is our biggest test..beat them and wouldnt worry about Spain, Portugal or the Argies…them 3 look very average when being pressed by some average teams..play our normal fast game against these teams and hopefully Avoid Brazil in the final.

England is world Class at the moment and over the last two tournaments outside of 66 and the semi in 90 have never done better in them. My biggest worry is Senegal, I feel we are underestimating them, but if we get past them I'm going to sit back and enjoy the genuine world class fixtures,

Expect us to beat Senegal, but I think we need 3 goals to beat France. It will be the France game that will be the litmus test as to whether we are a great side.
If we beat France, then we can beat the rest imo.

I'm trying to break the jinx by telling people it...

England have never lost to an African side in football.
We've played African nations 20 times in our history, managing 15 wins and 5 draws.

To further counter that jinx, we've lost to Spain 10 times, they have the two cities of Ceuta and Mellila on the African mainland and the Canary Islands as part of the continent.

We've lost to Portugal 3 times, Madeira is on the African continental shelf.

We've lost to France 9 times, Mayotte and Reunion are French African islands.

Four of those teams have already been beat in this tournament while England remain unbeaten, yes some of those might have played weakened teams, France mainly, but they were beaten twice recently by Denmark who came bottom of their group!

Goes to show, and we've already seen it a few times, that the favourites can be beaten by the underdogs in this tournament.

Focus on Senegal and the ITV curse first though.

The Senegal game is giving me Colombia vibes from Russia 2018, imagine it will be a similar tight game. After that who knows.

What is our normal fast game, slow, slow even slower, backwards, then HOOF.

This doesn't look so difficult now apart from France, and the Final team, 1 less giant in the semi mix and if Switzerland overturn Portugal then this is the half of the draw to be in.
