Sex Pistols v Clash

Clash without a doubt, was too young for all the hype surrounding The Pistols, but it seems that they were Malcolm Mclaren's project, while The Clash were a proper band.

From Newcastle to Middlesbrough, Leeds to London and Bradford to Bridlington & more I saw them.

I have the full set of those Rock Garden pictures from the Gazette, I swore I wouldn't share them online but somehow they surfaced, but not from me.

One of the three I know who went is clearly visible in that picture. Like most of us he is not as resplendent in the hair dept these days.

Saw them 13 times in total including all the above.

I listened to them with my lug oil pressed against the side door at the Rocky in 77 as I knew I'd have no chance getting past the bouncers.

I was only 15 but looked 12. I did manage to sneak in for a few lesser gigs there in 77.

I didn't even bother going to the Pistols gig, even though Ian Lister told me they were on, a week before it was announced over the mic during a RG disco.

I'd heard the Spunk bootleg and wasn't impressed 🙄

Only "slightly" older;)
I wasnt there for that gig but I saw them all over the country.

My (ex) sister in law and hubby are the 2 in bottom left of pic, so I assume this pic is from the Rock Garden? I was there with them at the Pistols gig having travelled over from Manchester, the only time I saw the Pistols but the atmosphere and energy level was amazing. Saw the Clash several times but they never matched the high of seeing the Pistols, but recordwise the Clash's oeuvre is pretty amazing and musically way beyond the limited Pistols output.

Another tough one, the Pistols were the inspiration and probably other than the Beatles the most influential band of all time but just because of their body of work you’ve gotta go for the Clash😊
Hahaha you have spent years telling me the Clash are the best thing since sliced bread. Now you have droppy them like a hot brick. All for the Stone Roses no doubt.

Pistols lit the fuse, The Clash were definitely one of the class acts to come out of all that. Personally I think they peaked with London Calling, Sandinista was just too much to get through. Combat Rock was the last decent thing they did. Weirdly my Clash encounters were both associated with The Alarm during my Roadie days. Was at a gig in Leeds Poly or Uni and a newly Mick Jones less Clash turned up and started busking outside for the queue, in some sort of bizarre PR stunt that went hugely wrong when The Alarm came out and joined in! Strummer didn't know where to put himself. Later that year (I think). They were on tour after a stint in the States and I hooked up with them in Sheffield, in an utterly jaw dropping moment for me they introduced me to Mick and Don from their support band "Real Westway". They later changed their name to Big Audio Dynamite! Funny old world.

I haven’t dropped them at all IMO The Clash are the best band of all time end of. The Roses are my personal favourite due to age and the beauty of youth 😊
