Sheffield United starting next season with a points deduction if relegated.

I wonder whether us, Coventry and Sunderland will look to take legal action over this ?

Its an utter joke they were able to not pay for 5 members of their promotion winning team and be allowed to go up.

I'm pretty sure they were only able to pay for the players when automatic promotion was guaranteed too, despite what their website claims.

If a team cheats their way out of a league they shouldn't be allowed back into it when they get relegated, should drop down to the league below.
Many teams have worked out the FFP pitfalls and are willing to take the hit when it occurs as it really doesnt damage them financially, only maybe morally. FFP has to inflict tougher sentences but I don’t see it happening.

I find it very hard not to compare every points deduction that happens to us in 97.

3 points for rearranging a single fixture.

2 points for not paying clubs the fees for 5 players.

How can that be right? Rearranging fixtures happens all the time anyway. Weather, television schedules, cup football, european football. It must be barely half of premier league matches that actually happen at 3pm on Saturdays.

And by not paying clubs for 5 of their players surely they risked creating a massive knock on effect for those clubs FFP accounting and their own ability to pay fees they'll have all had. Doing what Sheff Utd did could have kicked off a chain reaction that ended with clubs going into administration.

The solution is simple. Teams not cheating should refuse to play teams that are cheating and bring the leagues to a standstill until the problem is sorted out.

2 points, a mere drop in the ocean.
Seny cost Boro that with his duff pass on Wednesday.

That comment is meant to emphasise how piddling a 2 point deduction is these days. Dieng is possibly the best Boro keeper since Schwarzer and him playing a whole season for us will greatly increase our chances of promotion.

Bit of a pedantic point, perhaps, but this isn’t an FFP breach at all. It was a charge under Regulation 52 which relates to transfers. The point still stands that the sentence doesn’t seem much of a deterrent, although it is pretty much in line with other penalties for late payment.

There's far too many ways around the rules now and it makes enforcing them in a timely manner a real problem. Having two independent league governing bodies is also a massive problem. Being able to avoid an EFL penalty by gaining promotion should not be an option.
Perhaps banning incoming and outgoing transfers after the first game of the season and not having a January window would allow the leagues to check for infringements and punish them in that same season.
