Turns out that Sir Simon got 3 month pay out of his salary when Sunak, who had been his manager at the Treasury for 2 years decided he wasn't bright enough to carry on working there so got rid of him from his government.
Lots of others got them as well, including Johnson, Truss and Kwarteng. Truss got equivalent of over £400 for every day she was in office, so she'll have no problems with the mortgage increase.
