Sleaford Mods

Walking off stage seems a bit of an overreaction but I'm not sure how we've reached a stage where a pop band who's schtick is "the voice of Britain's disaffected working class" is criticised for refusing to weigh in on the Israeli-Palestine conflict.

I like them, they are more clued up politically than most. They don't have to be clued up on everything though and if they don't want to comment on something they don't feel able to, surely it's better to back away then preach from a position of ignorance.

What Hamas did was wrong, what the Israeli Government is doing is wrong. It's innocent people who suffer the most as always and I'm sure the statement they have made addresses that.

After all, over in Ukraine, we are all pretty much in agreement that Putin and his government are in the wrong, it doesn't mean that ordinary Russians have any appetite for conflict and I'm pretty sure we can't blame those Russians slaughtered on the battle fields for the conflict.

We’re they asked to weigh in? A scarf was thrown on stage.. Tom Jones never had a problem with that sort of thing!

Their schtick is political social commentary.. this is there bread and butter! It not like fans of the band Steps are demanding to know the bands thoughts on quantitive easing vs open market operations. It’s a bloody genocide backed almost entirely by our ruling class.

I didn't say 'asked'. I said 'criticised for not doing so', which is what is happening. Your personal feelings on the situation in Palestine aren't relevant to this discussion. I'm not a big fan of theirs but I can't recall them signing songs about the situation in the middle east or even commenting on it before so it's hardly their 'bread and butter'. Their political and social commentary has always felt very UK centric whenever I've heard them.

Must just be me then.. no reaction at all to their band in the upcoming gigs.. business as usual.

Not just you and that’s sort of my point. I’m just not a fan of these pile-ons, backlashes, cancel culture for every perceived failing from absolutely anyone. All it leads to is fakery as everyone in the public eye is so concerned about not saying something wrong rather than being authentic. There’s so much abhorrent behaviour around the whole thing that I just think that what the singer of the Sleaford Mods has or hasn’t said shouldn’t even register.

You may not be a fan.. but social media is very much social commentary.. and social commentary is nothing new.. FREDDIE STAR ATE MY HAMSTER

Pile ons.. acceptable when its football fans.. not so much when it's musicians/celebrities pretending to be something they are not. MILLI VANILLI

Blacklashes.. if folks don't agree with something they have the right to say it.. be it SInead O'Connor ripping up a picture of the pope or Ozzy Osbourne urinating on a national monument,

Cancel Culture.. some times things go out of fashion, sometimes their novelty wears off and sometimes the thing that made them special in the first place.. just goes away.

12 ALBUMS IN 16 YEARS.. i'm not saying they should be cancelled or that cancel culture is a thing.. but it does seem like they are totally naff now

Not everyone has to have opinion on everything. I don’t like their music but applaud this stance.

Stop telling people what to think.
If I have an opinion.. you don't have to have that opinion y'know.

of have you read somebody saying they agree with their stance first and so that is your opinion now lol

I have no idea what you’re even trying to say here mush?

You’re mad because they haven’t shared their opinion on something they’re not experts in. In this day and age where EVERYONE must have an opinion about EVERYTHING, it is refreshing to take that stance. I couldn’t care less about your opinion but the fact you’re actively annoyed at someone for not sharing yours is ridiculous.

I just thought it was a cop out..

If I was performing on stage and a Boro scarf was thrown on, I'd raise it above my head.

If it was a skunks scarf, I would lob it back in the crowd.. only saying, like! ;)
My mate threw a stone roses hat on stage at a seahorses gig (Middlesbrough Town Hall)

Chris Helme put it on.. then took it off and stamped all over it lol

My mate was gutted lol
