Soft midfield but positive signs....

Mcnair has to drop back alongside Fry and Morsy come into midfield as a stopper.

Looked weak in both areas. Hopefully he identifies it and changes it.

And let Bola take freekicks and corners....thought Mcnairs have been poor so far.

Jones, Crooks and Uche are a revelation. So good to see pace, dynamism, enthusiasm and players on the front foot. Add Tav coming off the right and they'll scare teams....

UTB!

I see it a little differently to be honest - we played a 4231 v QPR and that means the three more advanced midfield players have to drop to keep a good shape and work hard when out of possession. I'm not sure we did that enough and seemed to be left with too many occasions when Howson and Mcnair were the only two offering protection to the back 4.

So I think it was more about keeping a decent shape when we didn't have the ball and not committing too many players into forward positions and taking too many risks. McNair and Howson got outnumbered too often.

On the topic of Bola I don't think the lad is fully fit at the moment which didn't help towards the end of Wednesday's game.

Agree Bola, it points to how thin the bench was really....the options to put fresh legs on were limited in terms of quality...and against ten men. Hopefully we'll have a good bench come next month that can affect games.

And agree re shape, def Jones as good as he is going forward will need to learn the other side of the game..he got caught out against qpr on that. but mcnair and fry seem such a solid pair it's worth keeping him there for the team as a whole...
