Sol Bamba interview

Good watch that, what a guy.

The wilder bit was obviously the key takeaway that it did disrupt the players and that he did confirm that he would have gone to Burnley if they offered him the job. Really thrown his career away has Chris. 10 wins in his last 46 games with us and Watford. Spent all but 9 weeks in the last year unemployed. It’s pretty clear that his reputation is in tatters and it’s probably largely about his personality and ugly ambition as much as the way his teams have capitulated.

I’m sure someone will give him a job in the next couple of months out of desperation, but words already out there that he’s in it for him.

The annoying thing is that he had turned us into a great side, we were winning lots of games and putting in some great performances. The sudden downturn around about the time that the Burnley thing was puzzling when looking from the outside. The weird obsession with a left footed centre back was my overriding memory whilst the clubs form had fallen through the floor. I don't think I can remember any other time where I have gone from being so pleased and confident about a manager and then the exact opposite in such a short timescale.

We'd already fell off in form before the Burnley speculation even came out.

Humiliation against Barnsley and Sheffield United, before getting a couple of wins against relegation fodder going in to the international break.

We them came back to lose to Fulham and Hull consecutively.
That Hull match especially was infuriating.

The link came out before the Bournemouth match, where we got a solid if dour point, and he didn't distance himself from it in the post match.

Yes, the season had hit a few rocks and as any manager will tell you, players will look for any excuse whatsoever in that situation. Bamba, I think in his Northern Echo podcast, said it quickly became the feeling that Wilder looked like he was off etc. So I don't think it caused it, but it certainly didn't help us get the train back on the rails and get in the play-offs. Culminating with that match at Preston which I think was one of the worst Boro performances I've ever seen, certainly in the second tier.

I detested Ziege at the time, for his ethics. Gary O'Neil is up there with Wilder as well.
I think the fact he was a manager cut a little deeper. He came in, promised so much, started to deliver, got his own song and gave us hope. He had us all dreaming. To suddenly turn out to be a nob.
Players can annoy you but are a smaller piece in the overall puzzle.

Is this the first time someone has openly come out and confirmed the Wilder/Burnley thing? Think Scott hinted at it but seen anyone explicitly confirm it before.

What a bellend. Thought he was bigger than us from day one. Still, hilarious that his attempt to ditch us to further his career has seen his career absolutely nosedive.

As borolad's mate would say, the dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed.
