Someone has got to say it.

One thing I did notice last night we played a lot of long balls out from the keeper. I don't have an issue with that as I said the other day we need to mix the distribution up at times as I think teams were starting to suss Steffan out. Probably played more long balls than in any game since Wilder.

The only thing wrong with tonight’s game was that Burnley were given an offside goal by the officials. Otherwise we would have taken the lead from that penalty and a completely different game would have ensued. 😠
 
a centre back should defend first and foremost and the passer aspect should be a bonus not the priority. Paddy is not a bad footballer, but, unfortunately, he isn’t aware enough and that lets him down as he slows the game down while he checks out where to pass and he makes errors like he did for the second goal. If Fry was cb last night the second goal doesn’t happen because he doesn’t t sit 3 yards behind the rest of the back line and play everyone onside and he doesn’t then compound it by going to sleep and not picking up the man in the box / not attacking the ball like Paddy did. ( obvs Howson could do far better also). This isn’t intended as a fashionable slate McNair comment, he’s a decent enough squad player and did well filling in at LCB in a 3 but he should not be starting at CB ahead of Fry in a 2 imho.

As many have said MF right works back as hard as forwards which really helps tommy Smith pacewise, he & Mcgree will start monday ,as will Barlaser. Dael Fry is a strange one , thought he would have Been better v a brute like Barnes style player who thrive physically . The plans worked well thus far just maybe needs a tweak in a few places at times , would like to give barlaser a game rest HH, who seems to be diving in at times lately.
