why on earth would you criticise someone for saying they don’t want him?

I think saying that a bloke who took England from the watch behind the sofa embarrassment of losing to Iceland to a couple of kicks away from being champions of Europe would be a downgrade on Steve Bruce is a bit harsh.

It also feels a bit like delusions of grandeur to even suggest that a man managing England extremely successfully would even consider managing Newcastle.

Though I agree that it would be a poor move all round for everyone concerned.

Could say this is 'typical' Newcastle. The ink isn't even dry on the takeover and they have already went from Antonio Conte to Gareth Southgate!
