Clearly a benefit of Brexit.
No more restrictions on steel imports
No more restrictions on steel imports
..and now they've pulled what protection there was.Indeed the (Tory) Government of the day prevented the EU from introducing any protection that might have saved SSI Redcar.
We'll be told that US standards are just as good as ours. Just like Australian standards.Yes , but it wasn't spun that way & it was an easy narrative for people to believe. Just wait until you get the terms of the US trade deal .
If its labelled correctly, surely, just don't buy it. I know the comments about takeaway aswell, it'll be wholesalers selling this to restaurants. Just be selective and ask about the source if you want to know where it came from.Yummy chlorinated chicken and antibiotic rich beef, nom nom nom...
Oh so easy. Of course, the imported beef and chicken is much cheaper, as they mass produce and don't have the same hygiene and welfare standards. That, in turn, drives our farmers out of business as they can no longer compete on price. If its labelled correctly, surely, just don't buy it. I know the comments about takeaway aswell, it'll be wholesalers selling this to restaurants. Just be selective and ask about the source if you want to know where it came from.
You may have been asked this before but is your profile picture from the Spanish Civil War ? If so , please may I ask why ?Ref quality - Funny enough I think some steel buyers on here have said some of the Chinese stuff is poor quality!
I do read the interesting posts on here and I learnt from posters in the steel industry on here back in 2015 that energy costs is one of the biggest costs in producing steel and that UK producers were getting hammered in say 2015 by green credits and green taxes which effectively made our energy prices one of the highest in the world and the UK and EU Government(s) had in effect caused some of these high costs. Every Tom d*ck and Harry was putting solar panels on their roofs because they were getting high guaranteed prices for their solar powered electricity and some mug(s) had to pay for it.
I am amazed in this country that someone who knows nothing about the steel industry can buy a large chunk of it say from Corus for a £1, and award themselves large fees for running businesses they have no expertise in, then when it goes wrong walk away after pocketing millions (£18m in fees and £14m in interest payments) with no liabilities. Leaving a key industry and key producer hanging on for its life and thousands employees and their families in distress. Welcome to the world of Private Investment company Greybull. This is nothing to do with Brexit btw it would have gone on if were in the EU or out. Its just a lack of interest by our so called betters during those years. And before someone say its the Tories it went on under Labour too.
We aren't a low cost chicken producer. One of the most expensive in Europe. Brazil and Ukraine are about 60% of carcass costs compared with the UK. The USA 70% of our cost. Brazil and the USA are the world's largest exporters, with worldwide markets.Nearly all our UK chicken is already mass produced, thats why its so cheap.
Avara process 900,000 chickens a day in just one of their UK factories. They are part owned by Cargill the biggest food processing company in the world which has its HQ in the USA and have been since around 1980.
I doubt we will be swamped by US chicken. Food production in the UK is in general highly automated, both in the breeding and killing and processing of chickens.
We are Avara Foods, a company you want to work with and for.
Avara Foods are the sole UK supplier of chicken, turkey and duck. We supply to some of the biggest supermarkets and restaurants in the country.www.avarafoods.co.uk
Maybe its different for the growing of some foods say wheat on the Praries where there are natural climatic and land size advantages.
