Steve Albini - RIP

Oh terribly sad news - an incredibly influential musical force. From Big Black to producer of so, so many - including even Dutch legends The Ex.
Capturing the raw power of bands - in one take - so many bands completely changed their approach to the studio after Albini.

According to this article, and there are quoted sources and magazine clippings to verify, this guy wasn't the sort of person who should be getting RIP posts. The article makes grim reading so be warned.

The quotes are detailed and disgusting, they're real, and he wrote similar things in his own magazine, so he definitely wasn't misquoted. He knew his friend was making CSAM and he endorsed it. Those are the important takeaways.

I had never heard of this guy but saw something on Reddit and I recognised the name again. Thought people should know.

Nearly posted something about this last week but felt I didn't know enough about it or the sources/writer of the article.

However certainly seems pretty damning and whilst I get the argument of setting the artist apart from the art this sort of thing goes way beyond that. Absolutely disgusting.

Surprised he is still held in such high regard if this was common knowledge.

Yeah I posted something about the names of his bands, R apeman FFS!, and his status as "edgelord" which he subsequently distanced himself from, but decided not to post in the end - certainly a messed up bloke whatever his motiviations.

In Utero and Surfer Rosa were two of my favourite albums growing up, still are.

Had no idea about some of that stuff he had wrote mind, seems very disturbing.
