Steve Gibson Stand

Many clubs have stands named after club legends. Is it time to replace our functional (north, east, south and west) names? How about Steve Gibson Stand for the East Stand?

Naming something after yourself or building a statue of yourself is a proper d*ck move. No way Gibson would do that.

I like that we don't have names and we use the compass points. It annoys me when I go to an away ground and the stands have names so I have to walk round the stadium to find the away end instead of being able to work it out.

I think it'll happen when he's no longer with us - in a morbid sense not a business/owner sense - which is a shame that he won't get to see it, but be nice for his family but i agree it's a bit odd signing off on naming it after yourself.

stands are like statues - you dont get one till you pass over.

I'm surprised I get one at all, but George Hardwick I think lived to see his?

Not in favour of naming the stands really; I suppose a 4th statue will happen, but I think renaming the ground in honour of SG is a better idea. Obviously, that's for the next owner to do; I think Walsall's chairman might have had the front to name their last ground after himself, but it's a bad look.

Gibson Park once he moves on.
Never mind a single stand.
Stadia named after living, at this time, benefactors include Kassam Stadium (Oxford United), Majetski Stadium ( Reading) and Adams Park (Wycombe).

The DW stadium in Wigan could technically fall into this category because DW stands for Dave Whelan who was the owner of DWSports (which no longer really exists due to administration) and Wigan Athletic (and the stadium).

Brian Clough statue should be outside the Riverside.

For what it's worth, I like Clough's statue where it is.

I don't think there's enough evidence of the club in the town centre since the move to the Riverside; the statue is one of the few reminders.
Plus it's quite a lot smaller than the ones at the RS and would look out of place.
