Steve Turner claimed being Cleveland PCC, along with potentially a local councillor on Redcar and Cleveland Council would "dovetail seamlessly"

Whilst you can of course have jobs at the same time as being a councillor I think it's ridiculous that he is looking to be a councillor on top of a £90k a year crime commissioner role.

Need to get these clowns out.

He was ukip but he was the Tory office manager for south tees and Simon Clarke after realising he would have more success but shows where his allegiance lies.

Like Ted Strike in Ingleby. Beloved because he does family run days for the kids and always grinning but ran under ukip and Christian party who campaigned against sex ed, and famously said allowing gay marriage caused god to punish the UK with storms but has gay best friends and was just taken out of context of course... "independent" now.

Given the nature of what a pcc is required to do, anyone who has even the faintest allegiance to ukip shouldn't be seriously considered.

I'm not even sure that Conservative ideology accords with the role, even less so given how far right ukip is.

Barry Coppinger was, in my personal experience, a decent enough guy (save for some particular issues) with the right intentions, but the politics got the better of him. Not sure he was well advised either.

The people I know in the force said that for better or worse you were aware of coppinger regularly, saw him about and knew what he was up to. They've all said literally the opposite of turner.

I still don't really see the point of a politicised pcc role
 
Just when Teesside is full of little scrotes on the rob atm, our PCC thinks it's time for another job as his £60k+ salary isnt enough
 
I know Barry very well, he is a really genuine lovely guy, honest as the days long. Sadly there doesn't seem to be much room in today politics for genuine lovely honest people.

The emergence of pcc's has been deeply damaging to policing generally a d especially so locally.

Not a day went by without Houchen et al criticising anything and everything about Clvelrns Police in order to damage coppinger.

Barry had his faults, but having worked closely with him I know his heart is in the right place.

Agreed I know Barry. Nice guy and as you say honest. Came to my mother's funeral while he was PCC after being on council with her. It was good of him as none of her fellow councillors bothered. Even though she was close to a number while she was still serving on council.
