Steve turner's COPA app

Seen some discussions on this on FB, the idea being you report crime easily. All the local Tory counsellors been bigging it up

If you ring 101 you get a a crime reference number and it's reported in the figures

If you use the COPA app it goes to Steve turners office who review it, during office hours, and if necessary send details to the police.

What is the point?

I presume it will lead to less crime reported as Steve's office tell the police to increase presence or whatever but it doesn't go down as a crime

If you want to report it as an actual crime the app, helpfully, gives you a link to the crime stoppers website. So it's a police app that doesn't let you report a crime properly, just links you to an existing service

The COPA app has nothing to do with reporting anything to Cleveland Police. It is there purely for you to communicate with the OPCC - different organisation. Its sole purpose is to satisfy the "promise" Steve Turner made during his election campaign, to introduce a mobile app for reporting (which it doesn't - it only "appears" to. If you want to report anything online use the Cleveland Police website not the app. The COPA app serves absolutely no operational value whatsoever - tax payers money well spent!
