This Saturday the Stewart Parkrun will be coming together to celebrate the 500th parkrun at Stewart Park. Everyone is welcome to come on down and run, jog, walk, volunteer or watch and the request is wear BLUE. The run starts at 9am near the Ladgate Lane car park. It is a run not a race. But you can first register on parkrun site and download/print off a barcode that will be given to you and you can bring this along to record your run/walk in the weekly results stats.
Started in 2012, Stewart parkrun has just celebrated a birthday on 7th July. The first run was on 7/7/2012 when Middlesbrough became the first town in the country to have a second parkrun joining Albert Parkrun.
Parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. Parkrun is 5km and takes place every Saturday starting at 9am in parklands across this country, Europe and many countries around the world, entirely organised by volunteers. Since last October the event became even more inclusive as there are now dedicated walking volunteers guiding those that would prefer to walk rather than jog or run around the park.
Averaging nearly 260 parkrunners every Saturday, Stewart Parkrun is a major weekly community event. The course is two laps around the scenic Marton park. It is thanks to the efforts of volunteers organised by joint run directors Samantha and Ruth McMaster Lees
Here are some stats from Stewart Parkrun's 500 events.
Finishers: 13,318 (different individuals)
Finishes: 129,581
Average finishers per week: 259.7
Volunteers: 1,119
