Summer Signings

Maccarone

Well-known member
Positives
Dieng (brilliant keeper)
Rav (exceptional for his age)
Engel (fought back from poor start, love his character to do so)
Greenwood ( has ability to turn a game)
O'Brien (before injury)

Neutral
Rogers (definitely has potential)
Latte Lath (think he is potentially good)
Silvera (just, raw but signs of ability)
Bangura ( bit unknown but promise)

Negative
Gilbert (little seen of him)
Glover (no confidence in him)

Jones unable to rate

Think above in a fair ranking at this stage of the season ? Also think that a couple of the neutrals have potential to do well with us.
Be interested to see what others think

Pretty fair, not seen enough of Bangura but what bits I have seen have been encouraging think he will do well long term

We've definitely done well. The majority look to be 'worth' more than we signed them for.

Also all good ages and none of them on ridiculous contracts and signing on frees. To think it's not that long ago we were signing the likes of Sav / Fletcher and flint for 7mil each and giving them away 😕

Oh boy we have blown so much money over recent years, thinking dare I mention Rudy, Britt, unbelievable transfer fees and contracts.. ..I'm all for the new model, all for it

How much did RvdB cost? Apparently being looked at by a lot of big clubs. Wondering if Boro “out bid” them, or just got there first.

Wouldn't be ranking Latte Lath particularly highly right now, though he's got plenty of time to prove himself yet and there have been a few bright moments.

We spent a significant sum on him, comfortably the most of any transfer this summer, in a position we had nobody else in, and he's deservedly behind a young player who we'd fully intended to loan out for the season in the pecking order.

His pace looks like it could be frightening if he hits form, but his touch seems to let him down a lot right now.

Wasn't it a few hundred thousand? Peanuts for his potential worth.
What a bargain, other clubs unearth these gens and now we have, what a find.

I'd also say O'Brien surely can't be above neutral yet.

His one decent full game for us was out of position and he got long term crocked in the next match.

I don't think we outbid them - he said at the time he recognised the opportunity to get regular game time rather than being a squad player at a big club. That's a clever decision at a young age, as easy to get seduced by a big contract
With that attitude, I think he's going to be a superstar and we're lucky to have him for as long as we can keep him.

So far I'd say Dieng is the only one that is as good or better than the players they've replaced. Most of them are a million miles away from those players as well. They aren't all write offs or anything but none of them are near the levels of Akpom, Archer, Giles or Ramsey. There's still time for them to get there and with them, mostly, being permanent transfers and not loans then they will get the time and if they do reach that level they will be ours to profit from.

Too early to be claiming them as huge successes (or failures).

I don't think they are being compared to the 4 players you name. To do so would be foolish.

I think it's wrong to measure the relative successfulness based on them at the moment, rather the measure should be whether each looks like they have the raw ingredients and talent which the club can develop and make them better, more complete players.

In that sense I think they've all looked like good signings, to varying degrees of course, including the overall cost to bring them in.

I would say that Engel looks like the only one that I think we may have paid a little rich for, although I suspect his salary will be modest one.

I don't think giving Gilbert a negative is fair ... He's played 20 minutes for us in total, after a hand injury.

It's going to be very difficult for him to get back into the team with who's ahead of him... but 21 years old, low wages, and signed on a 4 year deal. Great business for me.

We paid the same for them all didn't we "Undisclosed Fee" 🤭😂
