Sunderland vs Sheffield United

Looking on the positive side, if we do not finish in 2nd it doesn't matter who does, as long as we finish in the top 6 and we'd have to play very badly in our last ten games for that not to happen. The playoff's are a lottery whether you finish 3rd or 6th.

The top 6.

Burnley - win
Sheff Utd - win
Boro - drop points
Luton - win
Blackburn - win
Millwall - win

Absolute nightmare midweek.

How do 4 of those results really matter to us?

The only one there that really impacts us is Sheffield United currently winning.

Burnley have never been relevant to us.
Blackburn and Millwall are not finishing 2nd, Luton very probably are not.

Our play-off spot is just as secure as it was before this round of fixtures, that's a plus.

Still two losses needed, if we donā€™t looks like weā€™re now bankers for playoffs. Sheff United could beat Derbyā€™s lowest total if they go up as theyā€™re a team of cloggers with little quality.

Well no, Luton impacts us even if we do catch the Blades as they have a half decent chance of muscling in themselves.

Quite deflating this, relying on a bang average Sunderland team.

Think we all got a bit ahead of ourselves this week, I'm sure it will swing our way again at some point though.

Norwich dropping points is good but at the same time, the points tally usually required to finish in the play-offs is about 75/76.

We shouldn't worry too much about the teams just outside of the play-offs. If we can't finish on 75 points at least, considering what our current points tally is, then something will have gone drastically wrong.

How donā€™t they? Luton are now 1 point behind us. We still have to go there. Blackburn now only 3 behind us.. theyā€™re all our close rivals.. of course it effects us, especially with us dropping points.

I mentioned on another thread that if weā€™d turned up and done our job, none of this would matter. We look after ourselves and we donā€™t have to rely on Reading and Sunderland to bail us out. Shouts of a good point last night sound daft now. We need wins in the crunch end of the season. Draws not enough to reach our goal.
