Sunderland

On paper how many of their players get in our team? Clarke for sure. Other than him there’s not many you’d confidently say would.

The difference is they have a manager who adapts to what he’s got. Their starting line-up was decimated at the back end of last season, they still got in the play-offs and they still competed. They have lost their two best players in Diallo and Stewart, there was talk of Pritchard leaving, Clarke was desperate to leave. But they’ve just adapted and continue to win football managers.

We have a manger who’s a one trick pony, who was figured out by opposition managers months ago and is refusing to adapt to situation he finds himself in. He’s determined to stick to his way of playing as he still believes him and the team are “good at it” even though the form since April and the league table suggest the exact opposite.
How would you suggest we play then?

Some of their fans are saying the same about our players.

Probably not much in it in terms of overall quality to be honest. As you said, the main difference is the managers'.

McGree and Hackney (maybe Fry) would/should get in their starting 11. The rest... I'm not so sure. We have a very poor squad.

they made an effort at improving the first 11 rather than getting a load of cheap projects thus improving their play off finishing team from last year. All while using a budget that has probably been less than ours for 20 odd years.

we didnt even bother inproving our defence. pathetic
CB Jenson Seelt 20yo vs Rav van den Berg 18yo
ST Nazariy Rusyn 24yo vs Emmanuel Latte Lath 24yo
AM Jobe Bellingham 17yo vs Morgan Rogers 20yo
ST Eliezer Mayenda 18yo vs Sam Silvera 22yo
ST Luís Semedo 19yo vs Alex Gilbert 21yo
CB Nectarios Triantis 20yo vs Lukas Engel 24yo
AM Bradley Dack 29yo vs Lewis O'Brien 24yo
RB Timothée Pembélé 20yo vs Alex Bangura 24yo
GK Nathan Bishop 23yo vs Tom Glover 25yo
ST Mason Burstow 20yo vs Sam Greenwood 21yo

We have 3 left wing backs and 2 injured right backs.. go figure?

Very poor squad?

I have to laugh at some of the stupidity on here. People are willing to trash our entire squad and pretend only Pep could get them playing just to defend Michael Carrick. It’s all they have left because his record over the last 15 games is indefensible.

Jobe Bellingham was a great signing at 2 m as well as you’ll def get money back and then some

I posted this in may.

I’m amazed no one has gone for his brother - Jobe.

I wish I was stupid, I’d love to be as oblivious to reality as you obviously are.

The squad is objectively weaker compared to the one we had last year.

Give your head a shake and take off your rose tinted specs kid.

right now.. I think it's every one of them.. sorry to say but they are a league above us in terms of what they are producing on the pitch.

who out of our squad gets into their team? Lenihan maybe at a push.. Hackney would be nice to have for them.. but he's not guaranteed a start. that's with rose tinted glasses on as well.

none of them.

So what do they have that we don’t at the moment?

Better players?
Better manager?
Better owners?
Better fans? 🤣

Seriously?
A vastly more experienced manager. That is the big difference. Our fans need to remember just how inexperienced Carrick is. He was brought in to grow with the club. What he did last season far exceeded expectations and now he's being judged against it, maybe a little unfairly.

Jobe Bellingham, Jason Knight, Reggie Cannon.. just another name added to the fmttm list of players that we never signed.

It's weaker, it's nowhere near bottom of the table in quality.

We've not even faced the big teams yet.

Most of their starting 11 recently were there last season.

The likes of Bursow and Bellingham had already played in England before this season.

They signed a similar number of foreign punts to us, but they're largely on the bench right now.

At no point, even in pre-season, have we played the same starting 11 twice in a row.
There's usually multiple changes between each match and I think it shows.
If we'd played well in any of those games he might have picked the same team again.

Sunderland had 4 shots on goal and scored 3 last night. A bit of a fluke. Blackburn should have gone in at half time at least 2 goals up according to the Sky reporter. Blackburn had 22 goal attempts in the game, compared with 15 against us.

We have to make our chances count and reduce the score to shot rate for the opposition - easy isn't it.

I know its early days in the season but preston seem to be doing very well this season, I understand they brought a load of new signings in - think 5 of them have each scored a goal so far

No idea on the numbers but I would bet they didnt spend a fortune

Wouldn't mind being wrong, as I've got absolutely nothing against Preston, but I think they'll follow a similar path to QPR and Reading last season.

Storming start and then drop away significantly.

Patterson, Ballard, Neil, Bellingham, Clarke, Roberts, Hume and Huggins all make our team right now.

Yeah youre probably right but I bet then end up within 6 points of the play offs though, not scrapping for their lives at the bottom
