Switching to vegan for a picky eater.

So I'm really tempted in the new year to really try change my diet for a multitude of reasons. Mainly because of the absolutely horrific videos you see and I just think to myself that I don't want to be part of that reason anymore.

I know people are like 'mmm bacon ' or like to make jokes about it, but I was wondering if anyone had some real advice on how to make the transition.

I'm not a fan of vegetables so I'm wondering how on earth I'll eat without starving myself 😂

Any advice will be welcomed, I'm not 100% sure I'll manage to do it, but I'll give it a damn good go

Asian food is good for vegan cooking especially Thai. Replace meat with sweet potato or squash in things like green Currys and it's still delicious.
Whenever I am accidentally vegan it's because I have cooked something by this guy.

Just switch out ghee for oil etc.

Dried Shittake mushrooms are also very good for a meaty hit. Pretty much every Chinese store will sell them.

Edit: Sorry that's a really ***** one I gave you there, it's got cream and stuff in it! Check out the channel though, there's loads of veggie stuff.

I think in the new year I'm gonna have a good go at vegetarianism. Thanks for the advice!
I actually found giving up meat pretty easy. I rarely drink cow’s milk now too.

The biggest sacrifice I’d have to make is cheese, plus chocolate/non-vegan sweets and what not. I worry that I’d be hungry all the time, but on the flip side I reckon a stone would fall off me and I’d probably get down to an impressive body fat percentage and basically be an adonis.

I don’t want to get TOO much attention from the ladies though, so I’ll hold off a bit longer.

Will have a look at those, I love to cook! With you on the ghee! always have to be careful with Indian cooking because the ghee and sugar will get you eventually :D (tastes better with it in mind!)

Been vegan for 7 years, and haven't eaten meat for 26 years. First advice is get used to reading labels on packets, so many things have egg whites, milk, honey etc in. Second advice is get a few cook books, cook things you wouldn't normally eat, try vegetables you wouldn't normally eat, you might be surprised. Third is don't beat yourself up if you accidentally eat something non vegan, unfortunately it happens in a world not set up for us. Fourth advice is join a few Facebook groups like vegan food uk, or wherever you live there will be vegan groups to join. Fifth is make a few vegan friends, there's plenty of us about, having a support group or someone you can talk to for advice is great.
You can absolutely do it if you want to, I love food, and eat mostly whole food plant based diet with the odd junk food thrown in. Also remenber that just becsuse you're eating a vegan diet, doesn't necessarily mean its healthy, there's a tonne of vegan food out there that's unhealthy, **** food is **** food regardless if it's vegan or not. Goodluck, it was the best decision i ever made and wish I'd done it sooner

Also make sure you're getting your B12, even meat eaters can be deficient in B12 but meat is injected with B12 as most farmed animals don't graze on grass anymore, B12 comes from bacteria in soil which is hard for us to get. I use a spray from Holland and Barrat, it's important for Brain development.

Been vegetarian for 46 years now. The big thing I learnt when I first made the choice was that you can't just stop eating meat and replace it with more of the other stuff you'd have. You HAVE to make sure you get a good source of protein.
I didn't at first and just got more eggs, beans, chips, mash, mushy peas etc etc on me plate and after about six months I got dermatitis. Went to my doctor who told me to stop being stupid and start eating meat again as we needed it.
I spoke to a friend who was already vege, she said rubbish and sent me some recipes and details of good non-meat protein sources (quinoa, tempah, seitan, tofu etc etc, and the value of plenty of legumes)
After doing that, 3 months later my dermatits was all gone and I wa feeling much healtheir. Never went back to that family doctor again, much to the chagrin of me Mam.

Here's some good info:

Oh, and prepare to get absolutley slaggd off by peole when they find out you don;t eat meat. ONe thing that really surprise dme was that so many people get offended by it and insist on giving you a hard time abou t*t for some reason.
they seem to get really upset that you've made that personal choice and think for some reason that it must impact on their lives so that they need to slag you off or it.

I really think it's because you make them confront the fact that they do eat meat and all that is associated with that and that you not doing so is a reminder of their guilt, so they take it out on you.

Happy eating and dead body-free life...

Been vegan for 6 years and veggie for over 40. Try an easy cookbook, ‘The Happy Pear’, by David and Stephen Flynn is excellent.
I’ve sent it to more than a few friends who are looking to cut down.
Good luck, any little you do will help you, the animals and the world.

Try a new vegetable each week/ month. I never used to eat fruit but did this at uni and taught myself to like it slowly and now it’s some of my favourite foods.
Start simple and build up to the ‘scary ones’ 🙀

Not sure about veganism and vegetarainism, it's a morality choice, not a choice that has any evidence is beneficial for health

You need to keep in mind the diet for which we’ve been adapted genetically

Animal-based foods have been an important part of the homo species diet for millions of years.

Eliminating all animal foods would be like deciding you’re going to feed a tiger tofu and expect that it’s going to be healthy, if you want an organism to thrive, you should feed it the diet for which it’s been genetically adapted via evolution

I suppose if it's moral choice which i think is phycologically linked to the intellence of the animal your eating, you could try a sea food only meat diet

I'd probably try and address why you are so picky. You could also try and improve your palete first.
