Taskmaster

It is my new go back to series. Watched 12 of the old series in the last month. Had a rough few weeks living in someone's box room, but this just makes me laugh so much. Jonny Vegas was excellent on it. In fact loads of people I never know about just crease me up, like Gus Khan.

They've all had good and bad points throughout the seasons but it's rare I watch an episode and there isn't at least a couple of laugh out loud moments.

I really liked the early series where they started working out they didn't have to play by the rules. The frustration of people that had spent ages trying to do something so inconveniently that could have been done so easily by a loophole seeing it in the studio was great. Now everyone knows to look for loopholes so the tasks themselves can be less entertaining. The prize task at the beginning is also much less of a deal. The first series people were presenting things they were genuinely worried about having to give up if they lost the episode. Josh Widdicombe took everything so seriously he got a tattoo of Greg Davies name to win 5 points.

It has become far more formulaic now but it's still entertaining. Like any long running show the best things that made it successful will never be re-captured because they were unique.

like this task, a song for a stranger. Just true genius.

Anyone still watch this?

Love the show and always find myself watching the old episodes on Dave and E4xtra but just cant get into the new series ..

Is it just me or are the contestants becoming less and less 'household' names as the series' go on?

You might aswell have people doing the local comedy clubs circuit on it as I haven't a scooby doo who 3 of the 5 people are in the latest series

To be fair I didnt have a clue who the likes of Bridget Christie, Sophie Duker, Fern Brady and Rose Matafeo were but found them funny on the show
I'd say the current series they're all well known unless you watch none of the other mainstream comedy shows on TV.

Romesh and Tim Keys with the 'melon buffet' in the very first episode of S1 takes some beating. Especially in comparison to Josh Widdecombe's genteel attempt.

In fact, I've just watched the first season again and it was great. Fresh and unexpected. 4 comedians who didn't know what to expect plus Tim Keys, who was involved in the 'pilot' shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. He was the bad boy who bent the rules from the off, or just plain cheated. Romesh was mainly angry.

One of my favourite ever tv shows.
Ed Gamble does a Taskmaster podcast after each show with a guest on associated with the show somehow. When it's mid-season he's gone back to the beginning and I've been rewatching it as so. It's at season 7 atm on hold whilst current season is on then it'll resume after it finishes.
Often it's the ones you either don't know or know little of that surprise you.
