Tav - so I'll ask it again...

I disagree. Good player having a not so good season. The last 2 seasons before this one he's been our best player IMO. Attacks and defends, loads of energy, good attitude. It's not been coming off for him this season but he's never bottled it and cried off sick, or stopped taking on shots/corners/free kicks. A lesser player could coast along not making themselves such a target for criticism. Eventually his luck will turn and he'll be back to looking our best player.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion so I respect yours. While I don't think he can be questioned on effort or desire. I question the 3 thirds of the pitch. For me he is not effective enough in the final 3rd not dynamic enough in the middle 3rd and makes too many errors in the defensive third. He is a decent championship player thats all.

I just disagree he is good enough for the Premier league.

For the “goals and assists” fantasy football brigade… Liverpool’s all conquering midfield -

Fabinho - 4 goals in 98 games
Henderson - 29 goals in 305 games
Wijnaldum - 16 goals in 179 games

I’ll discard the holding midfielder. So the two “number 8s” averaging about 4 a season each

turns out just “running around a lot” in midfield can be quite useful… especially if it is exactly what the manager’s game plan requires

I think it was Klopp who said the best “creative midfielder” you can get is one who presses and gets the ball off the opposition high up the pitch. It’s the most effective way of creating chances

Well if only we had Salah, Mane and Firmino up top...

Surely yous aren't slating him again tonight? Some of his defending tonight was vital I thought. Genuinely expected him to be getting some deserved praise.

I've agreed earlier in the thread he's not been having a good season. That doesn't/shouldn't matter for what you thought of his performance tonight though. For me he was integral to the defensive side of that game. They were on top of us for ages in that second half. Him, Bamba, Pelts, Dijksteel, Fry all really impressive breaking up Blackpools play and getting the ball away.
