Team vs Villa

Gilbert, Jamie Jones, Coulson and then fill every other position with kids.

More fool the BBC for picking the match when there were more interesting options available.

If I was playing FM24...

Jamie Jones

George Gitau
Jack Hannah
Clarke
Bangura

Law McCabe
Howson

Nathan Simpson
Rogers
Calum Kavanagh

Dan Nkrumah

As much as I think we should be getting as many kids in as possible, playing a full team of them and leaving them open to getting walloped on their senior debuts may not be the best idea. I think we need to pad it out with a few senior players.
By the sound of things, Hackney could be available for Chelsea so whichever CM he intends to leave out against Chelsea could play.

Greenwood is cup tied in the League Cup but should be available against Villa?

No need to rest the keeper.

Lath could be back in training this week so he could get some minutes assuming Coburn is starting v Chelsea.

Would you? We have a huge game against Chelsea. I’m not sure we can go full strength with the current situation
I would Diego - beat Villa and gives us confidence for Chelsea. But.....
I'm not the manger and will trust whatever team is chosen by MC and his staff.

What would you go with?
I wouldn't start anyone who is going to start against Chelsea that's for sure. Be a good game to get some youngsters on the pitch and give them some minutes and hopefully gain some of Carricks trust as they might be needed over the coming games. Id hazard a guess that Viall will be heavily rotating their team too with the fixtures they have coming up

I can't believe Carrick will throw any untried u21s into the team after his comment about protecting them yesterday. Not sure he should either.

Assuming Hackney. Lath and Crooks are available (and Rogers suspended v Chelsea) I'd go:

Glover

vdB
Fry
Clarke
Engel

Hackney
Barlaser

Greenwood
Crooks
Rogers

Lath

And bring Hackney, Lath, Crooks off after 50-60 if needed (or if we are getting thumped)

Don't do a Wilder and destroy the kids by playing them together and letting them sink. You can't just take 11 second stringers and expect them to hold their own having never played together. But you do need to bring some in. If Injuries allow it, maybe something like.
Glover
Dijksteel - RVDB - Clarke - Bangura
Hackney - Howson
Jones - Rogers - Gilbert
Coburn/Latte Lath

Look to give Kavanagh at least 30 minutes and the same for A. J. Bridge or McCabe. If Dijksteel isn't fit, give Simpson or Agyemang a chance to show what they can do from the start. Max Howells might also be an option out wide if you give Rogers a breather and give Gilbert a run in the middle.

If we win, it's a complete fluke but we can use it to ease some seniors back into the team without wrecking our youngsters but we do need to give the likes of Gilbert and a couple of youngsters the chance to show if they have some potential.

When did Wilder do that?

That was the team against League One Barnsley.

7 of the starting 11 were first teamers, 8 if you count Boyd-Munce as he was signed for the first team, as were 2 of the subs that came on.

Wilder basically did what you're asking for.
But your suggested team is basically our strongest fit available 11, bar Gilbert for Greenwood.

It was only Wilder's d*ckhead comments after the match that were the problem, not the team he picked.

Not even close. About the only player out of that 11 he regarded as a first team regular was Watmore. He was trying to bin Fry and Dijksteel. Hard to tell what he thought of McNair as he was desperately looking for a left-footed centre-back to replace him though he seemed to be planning to move him to the right. Roberts and Smith were back-ups. Hackney, Boyd Munce, Gibson, and Finch were all thrown in together and never got near the first team under Wilder. Bola by virtue of being left-footed was an occasional desperation pick.

My point is that the way you give youngsters a chance is you play 1 or 2 of them at most in with your usual first team so that they have the support they need to adjust. If we go down some sort of U23 team vs Villa not only will they get hammered you will have no way to tell who might actually be capable of stepping up.

Against Villa, I think Gilbert needs a start. I think Greenwood needs to be dropped. Hopefully some from Hackney, Dijksteel, Latte Lath and Coburn can get 45-60 minutes to rebuild fitness while 1-3 of our Coventry starters can get a decent rest.

I mean, we're going to lose but we can try and get some game time into a couple of our returnees and give 1-3 u23s and back-ups a decent run out.

Jonny Howson must be given a rest for the Villa game. He's running on fumes at the moment, and we need him fitter for the upcoming Caraboa Cup game, against that Lahndan team who's name I can't remember.
