It would have been a beacon for Boro divvys from the whole of the Tees area, they would have been rubbing their hands with their good luck.

Aye, can you imagine a chain of Derby fans going all around the Riverside? Even if they managed to recruit say 500 who were available, willing to travel and stupid enough to attempt such a venture, the circumference around the Riverside even close by would mean this "human wall" would never be more than 1 person deep and at times leaving little gaps even between outstretched fingertips?

Not that hard to just dodge and barge through for amusement in any case (a bit like a fun pre-match game of bulldog) and yes as you say, there'd be local bovver boys and chos galore approaching it and kicking off chew to their heart's content. Hardly their brightest idea.
