Id rather my taxes go to a usable airport than the cycle path through Linthorpe Road. Ive gone on two family holidays from Teesside and multiple work trips. I really hope it stays open. Why people are so set on wanting it to fail really bugs me.
 
Why do people insist on slagging the airport off? The facilities have had a major over haul. Give me Teesside over ANY other UK airport, the experience far outweighs the busier ones. No queue for security, friendly staff and quiet. We got the Rockcliffe lounge for free last year with our package and it was ideal with a young baby to be out of the way. This year we didnt bother as we had an early flight and we still managed to find a seat and chill for a bit before hand. Ive been to Manchester a couple of times and sat in a hall way close to the gate because it was that busy.

No-one wants it to fail, but it's difficult to see how it can ever make money and, in the meantime, we're paying for its losses.

Because so few people use it and it's cost tens of millions. And will continue to do so. Everyone else basically subsidising the few that do use it, as they'll have to keep subsidising airlines to bring flights there.

I don't have kids but don't begrudge council tax spent on schools because everyone with a kid benefits. Lots of people go on holiday in Teesside but not many are using Teesside airport, they're not doing that for a laugh - it either doesn't go where they want to go or it isn't cost effective.

Don't think anyone wants it to fail, everyone wants it to be a great success but it isn't so I'm not going to blow smoke up its **** out of local pride
 
Teesside is a great little airport and would be able to sell itself as that, check in, straight through for coffee or a pint and board your plane. In these days of (literally) half mile hikes to your boarding gate that would be very attractive to a lot of regular travellers. Unfortunately that means scheduled flights to Heathrow (and/or Gatwick) and hopefully other destinations. There is little chance of long term viability with just holiday flights and solely “reasonably priced” ones.
We need to sell the area first, work from home, far better quality of life, commute down to London City for a few days in the office. Small start but aim big.

Meanwhile Margarete that lives in Pally has to get 3 buses to get to her appointment for James cook hospital, she shouldn't complain as she has bus pass, because she is 86 she has had it for 26 years. Bus from Pally to Morrisons every half hour, Morrisons to the bus station every half hour, and finally a bus to James Cook, 2.3 hours in total if she catches them right and is lucky...

Still some rich businessperson, can brag about a possible connection to Teesside thanks to Margarete and her family who are paying for it for them.

We all know the buses in Teesside are a joke but this is nonsense. Where in Pally Park does she live that a bus to Morrisons is the best way to get into town? Which of those buses to Morrisons doesn’t go straight to town from there, forcing her to get off and wait for another one? How long are these journeys and are you suggesting she is waiting a full half hour every time like she has missed every convenient bus by seconds?

I'm just about to set off on my twice weekly walk round my ward, you should follow me on Facebook and you'll see how often I am in Pally- which for your information is almost every day, but I'm happy that the people that live there are aware of it and not you.

I'm sorry mate but don't you think you and your colleagues should be fighting tooth and nail to improve the bus services in the area so that the likes of Margaret don't have to get three buses. Let's face it, public transport in the the Teesside area is woeful and a modern tram system should have been introduced or at least planned some years back. The problem with that is it would take joint up thinking by the adults in the room and our local authorities (Middlesbrough Councils, Redcar & Cleveland Council) become suspicious of each other and nothing ever moves forward.

It was of course figuratively speaking- But of course my example is totally possible, Bus from Cranmore Road Or Homerton Road to Morrisons, this lady is old remember, then to the bus station and then to the hospital, my point being that she or indeed anyone in my ward can't take a bus directly to the Hospital, which is one of the largest in Europe, from one of the most deprived wards in Europe, both of which could be changed if Houchen did his job correctly.
