Terry Venables has died

He was a clever working class guy - made us very difficult to beat to the second half of 2000/1 season. He had also developed a very good England side in 1996. He seemed perfect for the England job, but his off the field financial dealings damaged his reputation.

RIP El Tel.

He played for England at every level including amateur, as well as managing them which is unique. Coincidentally, it was 23 years yesterday since that Bradford City game that convinced Gibson that Bryan Robson needed 'help'.

RIP
A talented man.
Loved him as Boro manager.
2 top 50 singles and co-wrote the TV show 'Hazell'.
Plus he co-authored a decent book 'They Used To Play On Grass'.

Interesting debates on his career on the radio this morning. Understandably concentrating on his Tottenham and 1996 exploits with England but Mihir Bose discussing his checkered business dealings over the years too.

I am also saddened by this news, I always had a soft spot for El Tel and could forgive him for his rogueish lifestyle.

I met El Tel at Elland Rd during the Euro 96 whilst he was standing outside the ground talking to Robbo, Viv Anderson and Gordon McQueen.

RIP
