The 1st ashes test

Well, that's me at lunch. Hameed and Pope have done well under difficult conditions. Australia have the upper hand but lets hope these two can hang around for a while. See you all later today.

Glad I'm at work and can't watch or listen! Might be a blessing in disguise that I can't go over for the boxing day test!

Oh dear

At least we have a strong bowling attack to come back at them……

Let’s be honest here, we knew our top order is weak, indeed not up to the task of performing at the very highest level and this has been cruelly exposed for what it is - poor, inconsistent and with a technique not good enough.

This isn’t a new problem. On the showing today we are in for a right thrashing

Thank the lord for BT. Least I dont have to watch it😂

Simply not suprised. We clearly have a real issue at the top order and have done for 2 years or more. We simply don't have anyone in any kind of form other than Root.

How can the bowling attack work with these scorelines?.

That said we've probably got players who've not faced a ball in 5-6 months. The ones that have were in the T20 WC. Then again you'd say the same about Australian.

I don't see us ever getting over 250 in an innings. Although 147 on day one is inexcusable 😔

In any other era burns would have been dispatched long ago, the issue is there is simply no one coming through and going back to the same old faces is as bad as sticking with burns.

Cue the usual whack-a-ball debate killing the long format

Turned on at 6am to find out the score and it says a lot about my expectations when I was relieved they had got 148.

Mind you I had dreamt they were all out for 28.

Rain might be our best hope in this one.

Steve Harmison’s duck equals the all time record of 20 for England. Ome more to beat Michael Atherton.

I was surprised to see so many new ( well new to Australia) batsmen in the opening order, as you need big characters to front up in aus as surely wouldn’t a Bairstow who the Aussies know and would fear more be a better option than say a hameed ???

Hameed isn't the problem for me, we need someone with a test mentality and he's about the best option around. I think/hope he will come good.
Bairstow hasn't pulled up any trees especially at test level in the last year.
Sadly there's not much out there for the top slots.
Brook at Yorkshire is one for the future , but he's at least a season or 2 off.

I didn’t mean him Perse I’m just saying like a Warner that we all know and fear wouldn’t a bairstow who can slog and can front up in aus have been a better option than some we did use. He’d have beat Rory ‘s duck I’d have imagined for one.
