The Black Path with Paul Smith

A lot of us probably have felt like Paul Smith.

Part of my mum is for ever in the South Bank of the 1940s, in the late 1930s her older sister had to walk the Black path and weave inside the Cargo Fleet works carrying a meal (with love) for my grandad who was on the long shift - several days in the works without returning home. Hard to believe a 11 year old doing that today. To those children the Back Path was mystical - it was the path to hell or heaven depending on your mood, but no matter which it had to trod to put bread on the table.
