* The Championship 23/24 End of Season Review and Boro v Watford Match Day Thread *

Great reception for Ayling. He looks like he's loving life at the Boro. Hopefully we can do something in the summer. Wilder can keep his grubby hands off him.

That said Leeds may want him back as they are 'falling apart again' 😂
I think he's really enjoyed playing for us, but he is a Leeds player at heart and may wait to see if Farke is still there in a couple of weeks.

So we finish 8th, 4 points off the playoffs.

If we hadn't had that horrendous crisis with injuries, I'm fairly confident we'd have made the Top 6, which given this is a "transitional" with most of the squad overhauled (as evidenced by our start to the season) it's another good campaign by Carrick considering👍

Should we keep most of this side (especially the key players) together for 24/25, I'm feeling optimistic about what we can achieve now that they can play much more as a unit.🙂

A left midfielder (winger) I thought Watfords was decent today, a defensive Midfielder, a right back (cover for Ayling)and another CF and I think we will blow the division away next season.

Absolutely agree, how this lad hasn’t played more games is baffling. He looked good in the pre-season games, perhaps it’s a confidence thing, but I hope we see much more of him next season.
I think it is more to do with him not playing at this level previously he only played for Brentford B and needed to learn the patterns of play etc and the manager mustn't of thought he was ready but he has shown recently that he has a lot to offer, some excellent passes today and the interception to stop a sure goal shows he is on board with his defensive duties too, let's hope he can push on for next year

Stroud was his usual incompetent self. How is he allowed to officiate games is beyond me.
Just watched the highlights. A bit petty given that we won pretty easily but their goal should not have stood.

The number 39 (can't be bothered to look up his name) charges into Dieng arms outstretched

Would almost definitely be disallowed with VAR but I still wouldn't want VAR.

The point I would like to make is that corners and set pieces it appears that it is admissible to foul and obstruct keepers. It used to be the case that if you breathed near the keeper the ref would blow up. It appears to have gone a bit too far the other way now. If you watch the highlights at 1:00 you will see both 39 and 3 charge into Dieng.

I think Watford had lost 1 in 10 before they played us and that was an injury time goal @ Southampton, us beating them 3-1 was a good sign.
