The club needs to be very careful

We probably have about 7/8k floating fans.

If we have a good 6 months the attendance goes up to 25k. A bad 6 months and we’ll be down to 18k.

The club has thrown the towel in this season. If they were serious a striker would have been brought in and crooks wouldn’t be going anywhere soon.

Bloke in front of me left after 30 mins to go and get a pint.

To be fair, he’s been doing it every game for the last 10 years
The lads that used to sit next to me moved to the South West corner this season, but they used to do exactly that. Arrive 10 minutes after kick off, go to the concourse 10 minutes before half time, return 10 minutes into the second half and leave 10 minutes before the end.

This is not a rich area money was tight before but with the current state of the economy what was a deprived area has been hit even harder than most so naturally disposable income is at a premium.

There has been a lot of positives and good will built up since carricks arrival and the town has really bought into that feel good vibe but we are in danger of letting this unravel with a squad in free fall devoid of any real attacking threat ( no strikers in the bench yesterday) and a season that is slowly petering out in font of our eyes.

Next month is season ticket renewal time when we ludicrously pressure fans to renew long long before the season concludes to create our “war chest” but I fear seeing players sold snd not replaced a willingness to sell key assets will put people off and if we’re not careful could undo a lot of this good work as fans become dissolutioned and worse apathetic towards the club again.

A few more Results and performances lie yesterday and we could be back to the strachan era crowds, as walk ups just don’t bother if they think the side have given up.
Jeez and your the bloke who several times has had a go at fans for being negative.

Each to their own. Know some lads in the East Stand who do same but you know what they have been putting their money into the Boro for years and years and years so if they don't think they are getting value for money from a game its their choice.

Just stating a fact, not making any judgement.

The majority of those in attendance yesterday may have not gone into meltdown but I can tell you they were pretty pi$$ed off and not at all supportive of what they are seeing going on, on and off the pitch.
I tend to agree with this. In the toilets afterwards, there was a good deal of chuntering and the fella next to me was having a right go and saying the club had all but given up on the season.

There were a lot of sage nods….or maybe it was just men shaking the drips off….🤷‍♂️

Fair play mate I just think it’s a little disrespectful to discuss our future manager when Carrick is still in place.
Not really disrespectful, more just wondering what the direction of the club will be when the inevitable happens. For the record, I hope Carrick stays for a long time, and given the way this season has gone I think he will be.

I take it back then

It's a strange one as feel the clubs done well to get the fans back since covid crowds have really increased to highest we've seen in the championship. Yet the clubs not signed the tools required to bring us any success so they is alot of emthapy what's the point in going to games thag I fear will result in fans drifting away once more and when they drift away it's always harder to get them back.

We could have been preparing for a cup final and weekend in London in a couple of weeks. How quickly the tide has changed ...

24,881.
An incredible crowd, by any historical comparison, bearing in mind negligible away support and recent home form.
Its the only time we've dipped below 25k for a Saturday match this season. Agree that historically that is still a good crowd but it does show that crowds are dropping off. Realistically we aren't going to drop below 23.5-24k this season as we have over 22k STs don't we.

It'll be next seasons crowds that could suffer if people don't renew

No matter what some peoples perceptions are, the truth is the attendances are directly impacted by performance of the team. Mid-table Championship football won't keep bums in seats so it will come at a big cost to Boro. There was a big buzz around the Riverside towards the back end of last season and its took less than 12 months to evaporate. There was an expectation that we would go on and really challenge for promotion but the club just haven't shown that ambition.

08/09 - 28,429 Prem 19th - Southgate
09/10 - 19,948 Champ 11th - Southgate/Strachan
10/11 - 16,269 Champ 12th - Strachan/Mowbray
11/12 - 17,558 Champ 7th - Mowbray
12/13 - 16,794 Champ 16th - Mowbray
13/14 - 15,748 Champ 12th - Mowbray/Karanka
14/15 - 19,562 Champ 4th - Karanka
15/16 - 24,627 Champ 2nd - Karanka
16/17 - 30,449 Prem 19th - Karanka/Agnew
17/18 - 25,528 Champ 5th - Monk/Pulis
18/19 - 23,217 Champ 7th - Pulis
19/20 - 19,500 Champ 17th - Woodgate (when games around covid are removed)
20/21 - no figures due to covid Champ 10th - Warnock
21/22 - 21,699 Champ 7th - Warnock/Wilder
22/23 - 25,693 Champ 4th - Wilder/Carrick
23/24 - 27,336

Typically if we aren't competing for play-off spots the crowds will dip below 20k. If we sink into mid table or even bottom half mediocrity it's very possible crowds will drop back down to the 16-18k range over the next 18 months.

Early Bird renewal and new applicant prices are only available until the deadline of 5pm on Friday 15 March

Can see loads not renewing.
Well there's 7 matches between now and then so the performance in those matches will have some bearing. If we win 5 out of 7 of them then we will be back in the play off mix and we will get a decent renewal rate. If we win 2 out of 7 and are on course for a bottom half finish then I think we'll potentially lose up to 5k STs.

Most likely we will be somewhere in between. And maybe lose 2k or 3k STs next year in my opinion

This was my fear when I posted this as I just saw it coming.

They just don’t get it do they, as I said before you can only squeeze loyalty so much.

Good will is so hard to get but so easy to lose.

You've said yourself you'll renew regardless. There are many thousands of fans with the same attitude. It is that that is being squeezed. If season ticket numbers drop off this season (it is very possible) then they'd have to address it next spring, unless of course we have a very successful next 12 months.

Its a gamble and it will always be a gamble.

Yes you’re right I’ll renew but I fear a huge drop off in walk ups and those that just justify it.
