The Crown/ABC Cinema

Don't think it reopened until 2006 maybe 2005

Your thinking about when it re opened with the upstairs I am guessing, it was never the same.

I used to go Needle Damage every Thursday, I started going about 2003, sometimes trashed on a friday and play at the empire on the saturday.

Great times

Bar Fresco and the Southfield are my all time favourite pubs in Boro.

Times have changed a lot now and it’s hard to pick what’s currently good.
For a while we really had something special. They’d close Albert Road on a Fri and Sat as there were so many people spilling between pubs - which dominated 90% of the buildings.
I’m glad I got to see it as I think that page of history has turned forever.

I started going to Blaises about 3 weeks before it closed as I was underage and unable to get in before then.

Fond memories of upstairs in Lloyds Resolution before going to Jumpin Jaks for all you can drink bottles and then off to the Arena for Trashed where i'd meet up with my wrestling mates.

When Trashed moved upstairs Star used to get us to sort out any d***heads in the pit whenever he couldn't be bothered, lol

Makes you think, it must be shitt being an 18-25 year old now. Where do they go?

I assume empire is still going? But where else?

They probably just go to the gym on a Friday night and smash a few protein shakes. Healthy barstads

Some might not fancy that lifestyle but I feel bad that they haven’t had the option.
I’m very fortunate to have seen Teesside on the up back then.

Ah nice, I used to DJ / run nights there myself from around 2008 so wondered if we'd perhaps crossed paths
I hated the new layout downstairs. When we first launched it was downstairs only and one big room and nice open plan layout. When they closed to refurb we got moved to the upstairs which was still open but dark, seemed freezing all the time and it was never really the same. When downstairs reopened it was never as good as the room being split into two, with a corridor between them, left two fairly small rooms in comparison.

Exactly what I said further up, once upstairs opened it killed it for me, was never the same.

Didn't they have picnic benches up their at one point, which was odd

I remember them selling subway sandwiches in there 3am saturday night.

Or was I just off my nut?

As mentioned it was pitch black upstairs and I kept walking into them, no doubt countless others did too

We went one. Night to a rave night they'd put on upstairs and i remember walking into the upstairs room to a rave remix of HIM - Join me in death, which was wild. And they had these long pink strip lights about the length of two cathode kitchen lights that were strobing away to the music

Mental

But not as mental as them then installing those lights on the internal stairs between the upstairs and downstairs for a few weeks 😂 pink strobe lights, on stairs! Didn't last long. Looked cool though

Empire, mint, flares/popworld, the two gay clubs, upstairs at spencleys now called stereo (I got paid once to do photos of the strippers there back when they had them), Not sure if dickens inn gold room does regular nights still but that's a glorified function room. Looks like where blaises was there is a bar / club called Lola but getting to be slim pickings now

Think people go out to clubs less and if they are going out, make a big night of it in Newcastle or Leeds etc which is what we usually do

Pubs open later on than they used to be and alcohol is cheaper and better at home. Like I said above a night out to Boro from Ingleby is £30 round trip which is wild

The layout downstairs actually worked really well for the stuff we did, I think it depended on the type of music / event though
