So I’m currently sat in the smoke and mirrors restaurant facing linthorpe road and for a giggle I thought I’d count the number of Cyclists going past . 43 mins in and so far I’m upto 1…. A deliveroo driver . What a waste

The chances are they won't be in the cycle lane. I'd start looking at any nearby pavement or the middle of the road 😉

I drove down there the other day after picking a TV up from RicherSounds and saw 3 motorbikes driving down it, each with lads on wearing ballys.

I saw this thin strip of tarmac going mental on a night out once. Headbutted a couple of blokes glassed another. Police were called and it took three of them to get it in cuffs. It was a right cyclepath.

Additionally, it was an absolute nightmare with people pulling out of side roads and buses trying to manoeuvre around. Suppose it will have its desired effect as I will avoid linthorpe road entirely going forward, but as a cyclist no chance I'd be using it.

They've not put curbs in the road to separate the cycle lane have they? They done this down the road from me. Crossed the road at night having no idea some ****** had put a curb in the middle of the road and fell flat on my face in the middle of the road. Very dangerous. Was absolutely staggered at the stupidity of it.

They are being taken out aren't they. Replace with plastic bollards.
Wonder if the humps can be recycled?

Have you seen how busy Corporation Road or Albert Road are on a Satda Night or Sunday Morning?
Perhaps they should be closed because no car drivers use them.
The A1 at night gets pretty sparse - close two lanes and have one to save maintenance.
If you want your tin box - start paying what it really costs the rest of us in taxes, just so private individuals can clog up towns, park on verges and pavements and fill kids lungs full of crap outside schools.

Nearly 50% of the cost of a litre of petrol or diesel is tax which joe public pays, compare that to how much tax the likes of Amazon, Apple and Google pay the exchequer.

I agree entirely - and BP / Shell / etc. But Vehicle Excise Duty and fuel tax doesnt cover the cost of infrastructure,. maintenance and electricity to keep cars on the road. The cost to the NHS is phenomenal - which isnt factored into the cost of cars. Their are long term respiratory problems which people suffer, due to carbon monoxide pollution. Add to that the cost of maintaining "street furniture" - like railings, bollards and traffic lights - all in place to protect the car. And the cost of electricity to light the motorways, street lights, traffic lights and road signs. The car spends the majority of its life idle - parked up on concrete and tarmac. Its inneficient and costly to public health and the environment.

I fully appreciate that [at the moment] the car is needed for work, etc. But that`s because every Government since the 50s has ignored the inevitable, destroyed public transport infrastructure and left people [in some instances]with no viable alternative. But it cant go on forever. In fact, the experiment with cars and the internal combustion engine will crash in the next few years.
