* The [early] Unofficial “Official” 153rd Tees-Wear “Derby” Boro v Sunlun Match-Day Thread *

Gutted by that result, only one team deserved to win and Sunderland have fluked a draw because of a liability of a goalkeeper.
More to that equaliser then the keeper.

Ayling makes the wrong decision so far up the pitch. Should have been recovering his position and not trying to win that ball back. Give himself too much ground to cover.

Engel also switched off. Should be recovering his defensive position as soon as that cross went into. Absolutely nowhere to be seen giving their forward all the time in the world.

That's Engels place in the starting line up gone right there.

Then there was the keeper - or lack there of. Had a decent game to that point mind.

I've been impressed with Glover since he's come in but he's always got that mistake in his locker.

On watching it again I would say O'Brien was maybe at fault. He stopped tracking back and drifted into no-mans land. So when Engel moved inside to cover their central forward Rusyn was left by himself.
O'Brien should have been there I think.

I feel the same.

The fat lady is definitely warming up her voice for our playoff chances.

Yep. I’ve been very confident (….or foolish) regarding play offs this season, but when the window closed and we hadn’t added a striker, that confidence turned to hopefulness and following todays wasted game in hand I think I’m going to have to re-evaluate.

disappointed not to have won after dominating the first 25 mins of the second half when Sunderland were completely overrun. At that point it was hard to see how they could have got anything out of the game. Sadly the effort put in by Forss and Greenwood eventually told - thought the effort and attitude of Greenwood was exceptional today. The subs came at a bad time for us and knocked us off our stride and Ayling's booking and Silvera's introduction gave Jack Clarke the space we had denied him all afternoon. Glover will own the mistake he made - these things happen and i thought there were a lot of strong performances today. my only question is over Hackney who is looking a shadow of the lad he was before his injury. onwards and up-words though.

Engel is woeful defensively - i don’t know how people cannot see this

He's not a traditional defensive fullback, but he's more reliable than Giles for sure.

You have to judge a player as a whole and in these terms I think he's improved massively since his debut.

Sunday, 12noon, is no time for a local footi-match.
It always lacks atmosphere.
I'd forgotten what it looked like to see S**T singing.
It's all part of the rebuild of the club from the inside out.
There's still time for the play-offs.
We may even have a fully fit squad soon!
Let's be optimistic.
A team wins together.
