My take away from this is match is:
- the first half of each leg in the semis is the key. As game went on we got stronger and their game layers were out on their feet in the last 10. 790 passes for us, just 280 for them. That gives their players a lot of work to do out of possession.
- they’re a decent team, we knew that already.
- McNair and Lenihan will have a tough battle in the next two games against Gyokeres but Hamer and Godden aren’t bad players either
- plenty of success to be had down our left side against them.
- I feel that’s pretty much as good as they can play, on another day maybe they take another chance but that’s them at their prime. I think we didn’t even get into 4th gear for more than 5 mins.
- Alas, we need a better option on the right, Forss and Dijksteel are a step up on Smith and Jones
- most of their opportunities, in fact all, we’re a direct result of our mistakes and being caught with too many players too high. We need to be reticent of that.
- almost 25% of their passes were long ball, that won’t change. We need to be careful not to allow gyokeres to turn us from those long balls. Keep him facing away, keep him on his left foot
- about 3% of our passes are long. Don’t be afraid to hit archer with the early long ball in the play offs. They won’t expect it and his pace can hurt that back 3
